Quite some time since the last comments, so I wonder if improvements have been made. My experience of a Sunday lunch visit was above average. Food was cooked well, as per the Fullers norm, and the London Pride was just as it should be. Good choice for an afternoon pint sitting in the sun by the Agur.

ho ho ho and a bottle of rum by the shoreside here...or aye aye cap'n- this characters drank 2 bottles of rum before he got in here! If you thought that a family-friendly pub overlooking the picturesque River Agur and all the effluent that flows down it was the perfect place to pitch up on a Sunday night you might want to think again! Surely cap'n Cook couldn't have set eyes on a worse bunch of miscreants as you will find in this rough Fuller's vehicle....maybe they were left behind when the rest of the convicts were taken to Australia? You know that feeling when you have that class of people who are one minute friendly and offering you to dance with them only in order to provoke a public disorder incident? This place is like walking on ice...one false move and you're in a punch up! Even at the bar, usually a safe haven, a reprobate with a dog tried to provoke a bit of aggro with some comments aimed at me and our friends. And this was all pre-last orders!!! That said, should you survive and wear dark glasses to avoid 'boggin anyone out' then you can share the delights of an over-microwaved brake brothers delight, from the handy-to-read football-pitch-sized menu for stupid people. Menu comes tastefully drenched in an assortment of ethanol mixes... as your food arrives chargrilled- (thats how you wanted it right?) do not be put off as classy punters change their babies clothes ON THE TABLES- YES!!!! Hang on....please!! Im sorry- this wasn't the review of a pub.. I must have this mixed up with the A&E ward of Brighton hospital!!!! I'm sure it ends up looking like it!!!! PLEASE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY avoid this pub if you have an accent with received pronunciation......or if you are anyone else.

Can;t comment on the beer but the food is excellent. We have been here twice. The first time there were two of us and we had an excellent meal. The second time we had a very large party of 34 for a Christmas Party. The food was again excellent and given the logistics of catering for that many people, the food arrived in timely fashion and at the right temperature. Imogen and her staff coped superbly. Higky recommended.

Kitchen closed by half two bank holiday Monday? Was very busy, food looked good but we noted alot seemed to be sent back???? Toilets got a bit messy, had to mention to staff but it was addressed straight away. Entertainment brilliant, therefore we stayed far longer than we intended too, fed kids in the garden from the chippy accross the road unchallenged. Husband verified good pint served and the Pinot was pretty nice too, reasonable price. Staff were ok, but was exceptionally busy and under pressure.

Sunday 17th July 2011. Four of us plus 2 dogs went for lunch at 2pm. The staff were very friendly and were more than accomodating to us. The food was pretty good the landlady had her finger on the pulse of everthing. The only downside was the meat was slightly dried at the edges. But it was good value. The starters and desserts were top notch.

6 of us went there on 9th Jan for a Sunday afternoon lunch. We normally meet for a carvery every month so this time we thought we would try something different. We booked a table and turned up on time, when we ordered we were told that the lamb was finished so ordered beef instead, 5 minutes later we were told that was gone so we all went for the only option left for roasts which was pork. When the food turned up the meat was dry and stale, the potatoes were black on one side and dry. Also we had 1 small bowl of green veg and 1 of carrots & spinage. I complained to the owner of the pub, she said they had run out of veg.... 2 bowls of steamed veg between 6 was a joke, there was only 4 small carrots between 6!! I made another complaint, the owner then admitted that she asked the chef if they were good to send out...? This did upset me as she had a chance to fix this.. She told me that she would sort out some nice deserts for us. These arrived and were good.
The bill then came, everything included, eventhough we were made to believe that we would be getting the deserts for free! The owner by then had dissappeared..
We did not really want a reduction, we wanted someone to understand that sending rubbish food out for a high price was not good enough, we expect any good restaurant to show an even basic level of service..
We were horrified by the quality of food and lack of service, we paid the bill and walked out. This place has gone right down hill, we wont be returning!

Good food pub, they have one side for pool table, tv, sofas and fruit machines and the other half is laid more like a restaurant. Seafood is good and so are the bar snacks. A selection of Gales on offer as well as some premium lagers. Overall decent and innoffensive.

Sometimes the food is great and sometimes it is rubbish, but either way, the landlady is always mental!

Went there on Sunday after 3 attempts in a row turning up on spec and finding it fully booked - usually a good sign.
Excellent food, friendly service, and only 50 for 4 of us, 3 deserts, drinks, olives and curried cashews!
Great food all round and the honeycomb and choc chip cheeseckack is simply astonishing.
For my money the best pub food in Shoreham - beats the Crown & Anchor hands down and better value.

On a beautiful autumn afternoon we were looking for a table in the sunshine with a pleasant view, good atmosphere and great food. We got all three at a fair price. Although the pub was busy serving Sunday lunches, it only took 20 minutes to cook duck breast beautifully pink and the veggies were still nice and crunchy, the roast pork was great and the portions were generous. Staff were efficient and the landlady was friendly. We'll go back again with guests any time, and be happy to sit inside when the weather changes.

Been there a few times in the past just for the views from the garden but had crap food, beer & service so was pleasantly surprised to go in by chance a few weeks ago to find a music festival in full swing. The place was packed & buzzing so stayed, got hungry & had a great fish meal (served by some VERY pretty waitresses!) The beer was good & would happily have stayed longer & got pissed but was driving.
Got chatting to some of the locals who said the new landlady had really turned things around - which seems at odds with some of the comments below.

Imogen & Mark have brought some well nedded character to Shoreham, you are always made to feel welcome if it is just for a drink or a meal. Most of the locals are friendly and the staff are always pleasant. Every effort has been made to make the pub nice for visitors, locals, residents etc. Some comments have been made previously about the Hosts of these premises, all i can say is try running this business yourself and see how long you last and how long it takes for somebody to make unfair comments about you. As they say you cannot please everybody.
Back to the Inn in question, everytime i have eaten there it has been superb and the quality and service have been second to none, the Beer is always well kept, a great range of wines and spirits (reasonably priced for a local Pub).
The Bridge Inn has made Shoreham a good place to visit (about time) so one can say it should only get better!
Good luck to Mark (not the happiest Chef in the world but Damn Good at it) & Imogen (the happiest host around) in the future and i wish you great success

I couldn't agree more with karakel and joe beers. After all the wonderful things i'd heard about the food here i thought i must give it a go. The rumours were true, the food is great but THE LANDLADY IS AWFULL! During my meal and couple of beers i witnessed the landlady embarassing and disiplining two members of staff seperately in front of the customers (the staff by the way are excellent and really do the pub proud), fake smiles at customers followed by quite cartoon like glares once their backs were turned not to mention her abrupt and arrogant approach to my wife and i. My over all impression of the landlady is that she does little work and swans around drinking excessively and projecting her undeserved authority over the remarkabley patient bar/ waiting staff. If she does any cellar work, this may explain why both pints of beer were flat and cloudy (no sdisrespect to fullers this is surley just as a result of poor cellar managment. Its a shame she is so fowl as the other staff were a joy and the food was amazing. I will not be returning purley on the basis that the ladlandy is intollerable.

Hmm. joebeers comments don't reflect my experience of The Bridge. Since Imogen took over she has transformed the place. Always finds the time to have a chat. The food was ok before but the menu is great now, plenty of variety. Nice touches like candles and sofas. The beers are top notch Fullers and kept well.Best and friendliest pub in the High Street.
|
Friendly bar staff, and the most arrogant and rude people owning the place. The locals are also rude and stuck up their own arses. Will never go back to this shithole again, do NOT give your money to these pikeys.
|
A fantastic location with great views!
Food & service was excellent, very fresh & seasonal with a fantastic selection of locally caught fish reasonably priced!
Definitly worth the 10 minutes drive from overcrowded & overpriced Brighton.

yes the food and drink is excellent as well as the views but for someone to say that the landlord and landylady especially landlady is rude is utter rubbish. yes mark can be a typical chef sometimes but his creativeness in the kitchen makes up for that and imogen is utterlly divine with an attention to detail that makes you want to come back again. this pub is going places with the food and service and i expect people are jealous.
|
The food is good and the beer is good. BUT!! The landlord and lady are probably the rudest people I have ever come across. The landlord, Mark, is the most arrogant and offensive little man. I urge you not to line the pockets of these people

I think this pub has recently changed hands, great food, very interesting menu, and all food is cooked from fresh, real taste of home cooking, lovely location and very friendly staff I would recommend a visit,
|
Went in 4-handed lunchtime 9/1/08. First time for several months. Very pleasantly surprised by quick and cheerful service from young barmaid. Adnams on tap was first-rate. Food came very promptly, hot and well-presented. I won't leave it as long next time.

Oh dear ! Last time there I found tht some of staff are from Eastern Europe and still finding their feet. Girl I spoke to was from Slovakia and very friendly. Food service was OK but I agree with comments about microwave. Look at the pumps, point out which beer you want and go sit on the terrace. Cellar care is obviously not down to the bar staff as the ale was yummie!
|
Nice pub, but agree with the comments about the staff, why do they look at you like you like you are an alien when you ask for something? Nice beer garden, toilets clean. Food not as described on menu, and seemed very microwaved!
|
Finally got a response from the brewery. A bit evasive - not a managed house so not their problem !
Spoke to people who have visited at lunchtime recently - still no improvement in attitude, efficiency or knowledge of bar staff. Recommend the Crown and Anchor (just along the High Street) as a suitable alternative - nice terrace overlooking harbour, good food, staff who know what planet they're on.
|
Complained to brewery about attitude of staff. They couldn't be bothered to reply, let alone take action to improve situation. Suggest voting with your feet as there are other pubs in Shoreham overlooking river that have friendly and efficient staff, good food and beer.
|
Lovely riverside pub with great beer and good selection of food.
TOTALLY SPOILED by barstaff who act as if they have recently woken from a coma and have no idea where they are (and have never been in a pub before !).
|
We went for lunch the other day. Food lovely. When asked what beer they had, the lad serving on the bar said a few lager names. We asked what beer, beer they had and he said none. They do serve draft beer! When we left we asked if they were doing anything for the bathtub day with bands etc. The lady said "no". We then saw a big blackboard at the entrance to the pub giving details of the bands and the times they were playing on bathtub day!
The food was lovely and good value. The toilets were spotless. The building and location is really lovely which is good as the staff don't seem to know what is going on and they all lack customer care skills. Put it this way, you would expect someone in a newsagents shop to know what "The Sun" was wouldn't you!

Genteel and food-orientated during the day, boisterous and youth-orientated during eves. The only pub in town to offer a choice of Gale's ales.
|
Pleasant pub in Shoreham with lovely patio garden overlooking river with good inexpensive traditional pub food, although some of the bar staff seem to have an attitude problem with customers especially the one with Aunt Sally make up!
