Lovely clean friendly pub. Nice beer, brill service.

As for the "bad pub" review ? What rubbish . Clean, comfortable, newly furnished and friendly staff. Customers friend salt of the earth types you would expect to find in a community local. Very inclusive does a lot for charity. Load to to do live music sports great Sunday lunches they hope to expand food offer. Massive beer garden reasonable prices and a great landlord in Chris..what more could you ask for....some people really.

Last went last Christmas when it was quite quiet but the staff were friendly and the beer was decent. Seemed to have a nicer atmosphere than the other alternatives in Southwick
|
Bad pub, a lot of drunken fights and negative activity in the romans, a lot of other people share my thoughts on this, i would never go back in there, plus very expensive food and drink, uncomfortable seating and unfriendly staff.

Well it was a good pub quiz till the quiz master Kevin was sacked, now its not such a good quiz. Shame really cos thats all I went there for. Havent been there now for nearly a year.

Great pub nice beer good landlord and good and fair prices, food looks good too although I have not tried it yet. Decent and fun quiz on a Monday evening.
|
Great beer choices, lovely atmosphere. An old favorite
|
Good Friendly pub with best range of real ale in Southwick. Interesting Quiz night and food is value for money.
|
Great pub, great beers, great food! highly recommended. There is a local in there called Cuban, what a nice bloke.
|
Very disappointing. No atmosphere (OK, they were decorating at the time) but beer quality or choice does not justify a return visit.
|
The place was undergoing refurbishment when I visited, so it wouldn't be fair to comment other than to say it's probably long overdue judging by the old wallpaper & furnishings. On a quiet weekday lunchtime the pub had a social club feel to it which didn't make it very welcoming. However, given the large size of the main bar and the pub's location, I can imagine the atmosphere is much more 'boisterous' in the evenings and at weekends.
Unfortunately I was treated to the coldest pint of Black Sheep I have ever tasted, and had to conclude that either the chiller was malfunctioning or the landlord likes his beer to be ICE cold. Given the history of the pub and it's past accolades I would be tempted to say this was a glitch, but without revisiting the pub, who knows. As for the food menu, it looked interesting and varied although I didn't actually partake.
With so many other excellent real ale outlets within a few miles, it would be hard to justify making a return visit.

Nice pub, nothing outstanding, but has always been a pleasure to pop in for a swift half. Toilets always clean.
|
Fantastic Food, good ale and not crampt like the Stanley. Very friendly staff. Nicest pub in the area.
|
Better than on previous visits, but competition for the Stanley? No, I don't think so. Nice food and the Wolf Whistle beer was very good, but the place lacks the atmosphere and intimacy of the Stanley and there were far too many kids running round for my liking! They are having an "adults only" beer festival in November, so that might be a good time to visit again.

One of the best pubs in the area. Some competition for the Stanley!

This large pub has 2 bars plus a restaurant area at one end of the saloon bar; the other bar is a games bar.
The landlord and lady, Chris and Chrissie, regularly have live music and have just begun hosting 2 beer festivals each year, using the restaurant area to house the barrels.
There are always real ales available.
This is a friendly, sometimes quite noisy, local which has sports teams and quiz nights amongst other attractions!
