went to the wingrove in alfriston just after xmas in a large group. the decor is absolutely beautiful, i wanted to take a trolley, grab the furnishings and take them home with me. the service was fantastic although slightly on the slow side, which we didn't mind as the setting was so relaxing. the food was flawless, tasty and beautifully presented. have been recommending this place to friends and family.

We went here today for a late lunch, two couples, after a lovely walk around the village. We were totally ignored by every member of staff! We could not find a menu, no-one asked us if we needed a table, 3 members of staff were chatting between themselves so we went to the bar where again we were studiously ignored by the barman/owner? who began a converstaion with a guest about their room. My partner asked if they were still doing lunches but did not get a reply. We decided to walk out and find somewhere else to spend our money( which we did). No-one was exactly rude but we were made to feel very unwelcome. As the other poster said, what a way to run a business!

What a change. My partner went to order drinks (pint of lager and a coke) and handed over a 20 note to the manager/owner? before being told that the change would be brought to the table. It didn't turn up and had to be asked for.

Meanwhile we sat down with our drinks on the terrace and was offered a menu to look at. Meals were 10 which was ok because the food looked very nice. Put the menus down waiting for order to be taken and the manager/owner? then finally came with our change in a dish but informed us that the table was reserved and walked off with our menus! How rude! We couldn't believe it. Nor could we believe it when we realised that the 2 drinks had cost over 9. My partner went to the bar area and asked a young girl where the bar tarif was and she said they didn't have one.

In the meantime the owner/manager proceded to sit on another table on the terrace with a friend and a glass of wine. What sort of place are they running?

Whilst I agree that this is a great place I would not regard it as a pub. It is more like a bistro which serves great food by friendly staff. The wine list is very good but it serves only lager on draught, although it does serve some real ale in bottles. Overall a great place to take the wife or girlfriend but not suitable for a night out with your mates.

Great pub . we stayed there in Aug 2006 , good old fashioned rooms and excellent restaurant, with wines from everywhere , including my home country Australia.Would have no problems staying there again when we visit the UK. I can recommend this place for a wonderfull time in a very nice small Susses Village

Nice bar and patio to sit on a summer day. The recent takeover and refurbishment must have cost a fortune. Although the focus has been put on making this a slightly more upmarket restaurant, drinkers are still welcome.
