New owner (some time ago) and new management more recently. Better selection of beers and the food looks pretty good too although I've only had sarnies. The big thing though, IT'S NOW DOG FRIENDLY although at busy dining times they ask you to stick to a certain area which is not a problem really. Most weekdays lately they have been running happy hour in the afternoon too. This is the best I've seen this pub. Let's hope it continues.

Not very impressed this time. First time, only Harvey's Sussex on, not in great nick. Tried again next day (cos it was the only one open at 11): they had put another beer on and the Harvey's was better.

Harveys Sussex Best, Beachy Head Legless Rambler and Real Cider- Moonshine all on handpump. 4th handpump newly installed but unused when visited.

Excellent Harveys and menu seems reasonably priced.

Perhaps we were just lucky, but the Harveys Sussex Best was perfectly OK when we tried it (7 Sep). Can't comment on the food.

Sad to see this establishment going so downhill. Am a frequent user so am able to see the drift. Visited recently and had run out of real ale...not even Harvey's which is a felony in Sussex. Most recent visit pint of Best Bitter from the new Long Man Brewery in Littlington...absolutly aweful, but not the beer's fault. management has cahnged and those currently in charge have no idea about beer. Its a pity, as this is a good location and a friendly place, but it needs to get it together soon.

Much better nowadays. A few years ago food here was shocking, and really hit and miss as to whether it would be correct, cold, or even turn up before dawn.

Have been here several times over the past few months, each time has been good. Menu is simple typical pub food, and some homemade items. Can take about half an hour to come out, but it's certainly worth it.

Dropped in for a drink on the way to the station, while it looked old from the outside it was chock full of imitation "old" beams made of badly stained modern wood. Decor apart...an acceptable glass of rioja and bog standard Stella were consumed.

Wouldn't dream of eating here having seen the menu. Looked in vain for the "deserts" whch the menu said would be on a chalk board...no Gobi, Atacama, or Sahara. Luckily we had left our camel at home.

This pub looks ok on the outside, and there is plenty of room inside.
However, it is an expensive place to drink, and he food is tasteless and bland.
Go by the name, and give it the boot!

Pleasant enough but not cheap!!

We went to this pub today, it was the worst experience i have ever had in a food establishment! the food took ages to come out. The food eventually turned up 45 minutes later. Cheesy chips, garlic bread and chicken soup. well where do i start! the bread was stale, the soup was so salty it was unreal and there was a burned ring around the top of it, it also had a thick skin on top. The garlic bread had a black hair covering great chunks of raw garlic. The chips were burned on the outside and were raw in the middle.
I asked for my money back, something i have never done before. i was expecting someone to come and ask what the problem was, but they just handed over the cash!
I expect the kitchen in this place to be chaotic and dirty. would i recomend it? what do you think!!

visted the old boot again 1st time in a just under a year ,and we were horrfied the food was the worst ever ,do they have new chefs ? sorry but we carnt call them chefs may be cooks bad at that .we had steaks (that come of an old boot)as the last time we ate here was good ,we wondered if it had been taken over but no the same funny looking man at he end of the bar was there drinking ,may be he should take more care in his bussiness that drinking whilst his so called chefs serve up food not fit if animals, lose all his customers .never return poor

Food in this place was awful. I had lasagne and it was cold in the middle and burnt on the outside. I have to say its also getting shabby inside. The staff are impolite. I guess its OK if you just want to go out drinking, but then again its still very expensive.

Recently had a very poor meal at the boot. It was a Sunday evening and the food took ages to come out and some of it was cold. The guys behind the bar spent most of the time stuck behind the bar when they needed to clear tables and serve food.
The boot is OK if you want something with chips and its hit or miss for service.

We went into The Old Boot yesterday for lunch. We both ordered lasagne. We were pleased to note that we did not have to wait long for our meal,as on the only other time we have visited this pub we had to wait for about 45 minutes for our meal to arrive.
However,on eating the lasagne we noticed that it was nowhere near cooked enough, and the centre was almost cold.My husband told the barmaid, who was very apologetic, and removed the meals. Now,if one of us had not eaten a piece of garlic bread we might have been given the other person's meal, because when she bought the meals back again, the barmaid asked which one of us had eaten some garlic bread !!! At the very least we supposed we might have been given fresh meals, and, consequently we did not feel very much like eating them and so we left.My husband did not want to go and complain again,as the barmaid would be the one getting all the stick, and it wasn't her fault. The meal should have been properly cooked in the first place - the only way we can make our feelings felt is never to set foot in the Old Boot again - and tell our friends as well !!

Well, I only tried the soup - and that was - well I will never eat in this pub again - it was worse than eating chicken's feet & chips with a bad hangover - and believe me - I've done it - as for the rest of it - it is bigger enough to escape - so I would recommend a plate of chips and a Harveys

This pub is fine for the youngsters on a friday or saturday night , have eaten there on two occasions mid-day and both times the food was absolutely awfull. When we complained to the landlord his answer was, No one else has complained today. So we can only assume that all the other diners were quite happy to eat any old rubbish they were served. We will never eat in this pub again, would rather have a McDonalds .

I have been a few times and always found this a nice place to have a drink, good mix of ages and good no smoking area. The food is good and the staff friendly.
The Decor is old style pub and it may be fake(see other post) but its a lot nicer than some of the tatty old boozers in Seaford
namenotfound - 20 Sep 2006 13:07
Yes, the staff are friendly, but the place lacks atmosphere. The music was not too loud on my last visit. WJ King Horsham Best Bitter was in good condition, but a tad expensive. Other people reckoned the other two real ales (Harvey's Best and Adnam's Broadside) were not at their best. Didn't try the food, but that which other people were having looked good.
southdown12jack - 14 Jul 2006 14:16
the food is fantastic the chefs are excelent. The pub staff could do no more if they tryed they are so friendly. I have to admit that it is a bit over priced but thats oviously the money making lanlord. But it has the best atmospher in the area. And after work there is nothing like going to the best pub in seaford. The Old Boot. Keep it up guys the service and food is fab

Can't imagine what the landlord was thinking of here: has managed to turn an interesting old building into just another olde worlde themed pub. Doesn't work as the decor is fake, and the music too loud for comfort, as another poster has noted. Last time I was there the real beer (Harveys) tasted slightly stale: presumably a function of this being more a lager pub for the youngish clientele. Only useful for the occasions when the Wellington, round the corner, is too busy.

Large pub designed with wooden columns supporting fairly low white ceiling and playing muzak at a volume that is unlikely to please anyone - irritating loud if you eating and chatting but not loud enough to listen to.
Besides Harveys has WJ King (ex of King & Barnes) and the food was a reasonable standard.
