Good solid locals pub but welcoming to a solo stranger like me. Good banter and good beer well worth adding to any beer tour.

Currently one of the better pubs in the area though it can be cramped with too much furniture for the size of the bar.

A no frills boozer with great beer, friendly staff and great music nights

After the likes of the L:amb this place is like a breath of fresh air, good staff.honest prices , good larger /beer and none of the over priced rubbish sold up the road . Maybe the landlord of the Lamb can learn a thing or 50 about not ripping his customers off like the one here has. The place is full of characters but its a typical local pub where people obviously dont feel the need to worry about being P C all the time and why should they. Good honest British pub.

Visited on the bounce from the Counting House round the corner. Locals pub but welcoming by staff and locals alike. Youngs Special was good but, like the Counting House, expensive. Probably won't bother coming here again, better pubs not too far away with better real ale selection at cheaper prices.

Clickey local with a small decent range of real ales. Funny crowd and staff (possibly the same woman mentioned below) who couldn't care less whether you were there or not. Foul bloke at the bar swearing. Not particularly good overall and wouldn't go back.

Popped in for a quick drink to to be served by a nasty old trout with glasses. She was about as welcoming as garlic at a vampire gathering. Lewd bloke swearing at the bar about "coloureds". Made quick exit. Shame because some of the staff are friendly. Put the trout back in the pond - she puts people off.

Made a couple of visits to this local bar. Many regulars or characters. Nice pint but some of the regulars can be, shall we say, rude (lots of 'effing' and 'blinding') which spoils the atmosphere. A couple of these people seem to think its find to make dodgy racist comments and this can make for a nasty atmosphere.

What has happened to this once lively pub and why aren't Greg & Kim there anymore??!! They loved the place and made it totally awesome. Totally laking any atmosphere now and the staff look so uninterested. This used to be the place to go for music and meeting friends, no more, giving it a wide berth from now on. Back to the Crown or the Lamb for me.

lovely pub probably had a better outlook in days gone by, standard ales but the Harveys I had in top condition with a guest ale coming in shortly. Staff very friendly and the quizz night entertaining. Well worth a look.

Gave this pub another chance on the Camra AGM weekend, beer was better, but put off by intimdating atmosphere.

Nice looking pub but no real atmosphere and the beer on the night i visited wasn't too great either. The Crown around the corner knocks spots of it.

This is a decent enough pub with a saloon bar with plenty of seating and a public bar with darts and bar billiards. There is limited seating outside the front of the pub and Im sure that in 1787 when the pub was built there was a better view than a Waitrose car park.
The barmaid was very nice and after some confusion over whether I wanted Harveys Best or Courage Best I had a nice pint of Harveys.
I will recommend this place even though the Lamb Inn and Counting House are so close.

I visited this pub for a folk night and was really impressed. I've been going back regularly now. Ale is kept to perfection. Atmosphere is always chilled and friendly. Greg & Kim work this pub fantastically and deserve a bucket load of credit for the hard work they do - wonderful people, perfect for the pub. Lots of regulars who are nice people and easy to get on with. I really reccommend this pub - brilliant music venue.

I am a student in Eastbourne and popped in to this pub for a quick drink with friends and stayed all evening. Now under new management by a friendly couple, Kim and Greg. Friendly, polite and chatty couple who have made the pub have a lot 'warmer' feeling with table candles in the evening. Good music on the juke box and the regulars seemed friendly too. I went with friends to their piano and curry evening which was excellent, live piano music from Greg and home made curry by one of the regular customers. Would recommend this pub now.

Absolutely attrocious customer service in there. Extremely rude staff...well one of them anyway. Think the names is Angie...best avoided!

Great local type pub.....regulars all over the place but a friendly bunch. Most of the staff are great with a couple of exceptions! Safe to go in as a single woman.

Traditional drinking pub split between a saloon and public bar and it appears everyone knows their place. Interesting people and staff. V reasonable prices. No food and smokey.
