Walked by The Cavalier earlier on today and it was closed. Let's hope this is just temporary and someone takes over who actually knows what they're doing. Used to be a wonderful pub, but since the longstanding owner and his manager retired about 2 1/2 years ago a succession of managers have run the place into the ground. Such a shame as the position of the pub between the sea front and the theatres/art gallery must be one of the best in Eastbourne. Keeping my fingers crossed and hopefully Eastbourne Council will oppose any change of use due to the pub's prominent position in the town's main tourist area.

If you'd like to see a once great traditional pub in rapid decline, look no further than The Cavalier.

Dear oh dear , a throwback from the 1970s. The locals seemed perfectly happy with it and we had to leave before the karaoke started. In comparison , the local Wetherspoons was like a palace. The unfortunate huge fish kept in a tank that it could barely fit into didn't help with the atmosphere. I also suffered from overcharging as I was a tourist.

This is a very odd! The tables at the front are set with checked table clothes as mentioned and the back has two pool tables on a raised platform. The Brakspears was not on but the Harveys was in good nick. Friendly enough staff enjoyed the visit.

A curious pub not far from the Winter Gardens. As you walk through the door, you are presented with a food area which makes the pub look scruffy. It is comfortable with a central bar and a pool table on a raised area at the rear of the lounge. A good selection of real ales including Brakespear, Courage, Harveys and Hobgoblin.

This is a strange disjointed pub with a couple of pool tables at the back and a small kitchen area at the front with the dining tables set out with blue and white checked seafront table cloths. I found the staff to be suspicious of a non local and the general vibe to be fairly unwelcoming.
I spotted Brakspear, which was good, and Courage Best alongside some standard lagers.
I dont think that Ill be bothering with here again.

I like this pub. It is really quirky. If you drop in here after the theatre kicks out it is really buzzing. The locals are really quirky and so are there traditions (free fish on Sundays). The place is not very clean and you do get the odd dodgy character because it is open so late. The atmosphere makes up for the bad points and plus it is the only pub open until 3am in the morning. It certainly beats the Eastbourne clubs.
