This was the first time me and my wife stopped here for lunch, I must say that it is the best experience we have ever had and will be visiting here again soon for another great lunch, Value for the money and if pubs had a premier league I�m sure this would be a Man- united of pubs

My wife and I find the recent comments baffling as this is one of our favorites. The welcome is very friendly and the service is very good.
We understand there is a price premium here, but I feel that it is proportionate...you get what you pay for. We have always had very good meals here since we tried it for the first time, a few years back.
As an ale drinker, I must say I was always disapointed by the choice of Courage Best or London Pride, but there is now a guest ale also, which is more often than not, a local ale. So no, this is not a "drinkers" pub.
Well, it is "horses for courses" I guess, but I felt that in the interests of an even balence I ought to stick my thoughts in. The welcome we see other guests get suggests there are plenty of others who feel the same.

We stopped for Sunday lunch after getting off the A27 on the way to Chichester. The outside of the pub isn't very promising and we struggled to park - we expected the pub to be full of people but we discovered later it was mostly staff cars. We should have been warned off by an empty country pub on a Sunday lunchtime.
The setting is very nice, views over the golf course and a very nice garden, but the food wasn't great and very expensive for what we got.
We both had haddock chowder, which was flavoured with vinegar - a very odd flavour. The home made bread rolls were dry and burnt and the coffee was awful. We paid �36 for this plus a water and a pint of London Pride which was poor value.
Best to avoid.

in the good old days this used to be a great pub......... yes pub, good standard real ale ,home cooked food. locals. such a shame that the landlords hates drinkers, they want to introduce posh food to a country pub. people used to go there to socialise and enjoy, shame on the present very greedy owners

Well, a lot can change in a year. We visited to have a Sunday lunch. Only two ales were offered, Courage Best and London Pride. The Roast was �12, whereas most pubs charge �6-7.
This is more of a Gastro pub than a "proper" pub. The roast was fine.My bread and butter pudding wasn't done in the traditional way, served up in a square and was tiny. The creme brulee was tiny. Having said that they tasted good but were �6 each.
I couldn't fault the attentive service but I couldn't say it was value for money.

Visited for lunch with my wife on 5 July, one of the very best to date. Set in open countryside and overlooking a golf course, woodland and some meadowland, this pub does a superb menu (including specials) that caters for most tastes at surprisingly competitive prices for this area. Their range of ales and wines is extensive by local standards which may explain their capacity for dealing with business lunches in a superb dining room (conservatory) and bar area. The garden is fully mature and picturesc with high quality (splinter free !) furniture. All in all, and .....immaculately clean, 9/10 for genuine value for money. Visitors, better value for money than anything I know of in Arundel.
