Church Inn, Manchesterback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Been past this place a coue of times and it hasn't been open. Looked it up online ad it seems it's closed, may be not permanently. When I walked past there was a light on in one of the rooms and the doorway, the curtaibs were drawn and the door was locked but may be it will reopen. Saw a news story about this place that there was an awful armed robbery 2 years ago, presumably that affected business quite badly in a few ways. Hopefully someone takes it on as it seems lie it has a lot of potential.

What a transformation from what it was! Now it wouldn't look out of place in the middle of theatre-land, it's had a classy revamp! Seems to attract students due to it's location, but the prices for beer/lager aren't exactly cheap, but prices for food are more reasonable, and large servings. You won't go away hungry! Plus points - good lagers, no distracting TV, warm real wood fire in winter, outside secluded "garden", good food, newspapers and mags available to read.
Bad points - (to me) the ale isn't to my tastes (think it's Lees) and there are speakers in all corners blaring out music continuously when there's an option to have a "quiet" corner. Lack of choice of real ales + the music drops the score from a 10 to an 8. But still becoming a fave haunt of mine.
Pity all the scores are averaged from the *old* days - this is now completely different from before.

In the process of being gentrified, at a rapid pace

great little old school boozer, banter filled. cans of carling served makes it all the better experience, cheep pool, duke box. friendly bar staff, much recomeneded to any people having a day out in the lancashire City

Looks rough and ready but I got a warm welcome on a recent visit (unlike the Cavendish). Pity they stopped doing real ale a few months ago and only had JW Lees Smooth on offer, which I declined.

This place isn't the most appealing from the outside. Nor for that matter, the inside. The beer's ok though, and quite cheap, but when I was there the punters did seem a tad downtrodden, although there was no lighting and it was pissing down with rain (although that's hardly unusual in Manchester...). The salutation is better than this gaff, it must be said.

I don't think shellov's review is really fair. It's not a family pub, certainly, but they serve good beer and the staff are friendly. I wouldn't leave a coat or bag (or girlfriend) alone in there, but if you enjoy a game of pool and a decent bitter then it's not a bad place at all. In shellov's review, for 'inbred' read irish. I found the locals to be friendly, although it's not a place to go if you prefer to be left alone.

I would hate to ever see the pub that Shellow rates worse than this dump.

2nd worst pub I've been in ever! Small, dirty, dingy old man's pub. Staf & customers a scary bunch of inbred types. Poor selection of drinks, no air con....poor small TVs. All good apart from that
