A small Hall & Woodhouse pub but very comfortable. We drank the seasonal Pickled Partridge which was in very good condition. A limited menu on our visit but the food we had was good.

Clearly a place frequented by its local regulars but the welcome was warm and friendly Well worth a repeat visit.

The Bear is the the best pub in Wilton - cosy, traditional interior with carved wood furniture and great beer on - and since Jason and Sarah took over in 2009 it's been completely revitalised. Without tampering with its charm they've done all the things necessary - elected to serve unpretentious but reasonable and delicious food at lunchtime as well as evenings, have themed food nights and a roast every Sunday that's as near to home cooked as you can get. They've also added an extra seasonal ale pump and keep the wood fire burning in the winter. Their sense of humour shines through in all the little touches such as the local quote of the week hanging over the bar, their pub dog - Guinness - and the different quiz and raffle events they've thrown their energies into. Burns Night was a classic. It's not difficult to support Sarah and Jason because, once you've stepped through the door, the convivial buzz and the warm welcome reminds you how good a British pub can be.

Yesterday I popped into The Bear in West Street, Wilton for a pint at lunchtime, what a surprise! There has been a change of tenancy and I have to say, for the better. The little pub was busy, the new Landlord and Landlady Jason & Sarah had only taken over two days before but the atmosphere was completely different, they were happy and the sound of laughter continually rang out. To add to this they even had some people eating a Sunday Roast which looked and apparently tasted excellent. I understand that later in the evening there was a lighthearted fun quiz which was enjoyed by a packed bar.
Well done on a such a quick tranformation, the toilets have never looked (or smelt) cleaner. I will definately make this my Wilton local, long live real pubs!!

Under new management as from last Friday, dog has now gone and the Bear is having a bit of a face lift. Closed all day Tuesday 1st September for re-decorating. With plans to overhall the WC asap. With a peaceful and pretty rear garden now with new garden furniture makes for a pleasant drinking spot in the summer months.
Also going in to the basic food market with a small and great value for money menu due to be launched within the next couple of weeks. Sunday roast is a must at just 7.95!

Now a warm friendly and clean local pub Pop in and see the difference!

Great little pub with the best pint of Badger First Gold I've tasted. Unique wood-crafted tables and Ben the pub dog. Jukebox and pool table. It's a proper pub!

Tanglefoot and Golden Glory are two excellent Badger beers. Best is pretty good, but needs to be well looked after. The Bear is a friendly local, though unpretentious.

Non-descript single bar Hall and Woodhouse pub with the usual range of crap Badger beers. One fruit machine and a pool table. Landlord stated that he has been in the 'catering' business for 18 years although the pub doesn't appear to serve food. Don't know whether this place is popular or not as I was in there rather early in the day. In fact there was only one other bloke drinking. At least it was open which is more than I can say about The Bell down the road
