Lord Raglan, St Georgeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Another pub which is fairly typical of Hanham and Kingswood. Very local! Although we didn't feel we were 'stared at' when we called in. I went for the Thatchers Gold, my mates had the Ale but can't remember what was on (Sorry!) Busy for a Tuesday night.

I'm sorry fat_loser but you have me confused with someone else. I'm neither a "pub stooge" nor am I "Gary" or "Lee" who I assume them to Landord/manager of the pub. I posted as I have been in the pub on a few occasions and found your comments to be unreasonable and requiring a neutral reply.
It appears to me as though you know the Landlord so I'm guessing you are from one of the other pubs near to the Lord Raglan and using this site as a means to put people off of using one of your competitors whic is sad and rather pathetic.
If anything, your unreasonable comments have pursuaded me to use this pub more than I would consider using any of the other pubs in its vicinity.

it seems the fat loser has a real hatered for this great locals pub.
my experience of using this pub is a happy one, where the landlord does his upmost to keep the differant age range of the customers very happy, iv never had a bad pint in this pub which has a great variety of many beers lager and ciders, which has got to be better then the pub just a stones throw away which serves cider out of a can.
plus the food that is put on the bar is second to non and free,
this is a fantastic pub with great friendly customers, which in my experience are always happy to help.
i will never stop using this pub, gary is a great bloke and landlord

The last two posters must either be thinking of a different pub or are deliberately flaming to give the Lord Raglan a bad name.
The pub is a decent, well-run, friendly, traditional community pub serving decent beers and ciders at reasonable prices. The free food provided is econd to none.
The live entertainment (again provided free of charge) caters for all tastes and ge goups, ranging from 1950's/1960's covers band to classic rock. All major sport is also shown.
Definately a pub to visit.

A small street corner 'boozer' frequented by scaffolders and builders in the late afternoon through early evening. Later on it's empty.
Big on TV's and sport, bigger on vulgarity and rampant nationalism, not welcoming to minority groups nor to women. Most sentences heard in here are littered with expletives.
Some Saturday night entertainment often rather poor, beware, the door is locked at 10:30pm lest anyone else should want to come in and spoil the fun...
Interior decor is 'interesting' with plywood tables, falling apart stools and ancient bench seating that is collapsing in several places.
Newcomers are welcomed with a stare and stoney silence whilst the locals' pitbulls roam over the seating growling. This is not a welcoming pub. Inexplicably the outside lights are turned on during the daytime, possibly the landlord does it whilst he's still sober.
Occasionally rather dodgy looking bar snacks appear which everyone seems to avoid. Crisps on sale are often out of date and as for the shady looking sandwidches on offer....
And on to the drinks. I've seen "Stella" darker than John Smiths in here, whatever it was, it wasn't Stella. This is a recurring theme, either the pipes are all criss-crossed and it's a random beer that appears or there is some skull-duggery afoot. Nevertheless the locals seem to be able to get off their heads on it. Often two or three real ales on which are rarely touched by the locals, they are just there for catching out visitors. This isn't a real-ale pub, either you drink "Stella" or "Natch", poured from off-licence size bottles.
Practically any other pub in the area is better than this.

Out on a Sat night wander around hanham/St George pubs and this was an interesting find. Nice pint of Gem and keenly priced. There was a crooner in the corner knocking out underwhelming ballads, and interesting/interested locals. Enjoyable 8/10.

A surprisingly small, street corner pub which extends in almost (but not quite) a complete circle around the central bar. Decor is quite dated with artex on much of the walls, some white and some a sandy colour, black and white photos of various stars such as Elvis, blue velvet bench seating with red velvet curtains and a faded old carpet.
There is a (very) small stage area in one corner with a large rear projection TV and two smaller TV�s mounted up on a bracket, Christmas type gold and red foil strips covering one wall and a zimmer frame! Next to this is an open area with a dart board and another rear projection TV. There were two further TV�s across the other side of the pub, although these were the only two that were on and they didn�t dominate. I got the impression that they are maybe used more for karaoke or some such similar activities, but this was not in evidence on a recent Thursday night visit.
This seems to be very much a community local with plenty of activities going on. Besides the aforementioned darts board, there was a cabinet sporting a good selection of trophies, and two minibuses outside which appear to be used for transporting punters to away fixtures. It was just a shame that some of the locals seemed to be swearing rather excessively, which perhaps accounted for why there were no ladies present, other than the barmaid.
Beers on tap were Gem which seemed to be past it�s best and Courage Best. Ciders were better represented with Blackthorn, Strongbow and Bath Ales� Bounders.
