Nice pub in Clifton. Well kept ale, and a great smoking area. The landlord and landlady are very nice too, but the ale is a little pricey.

really like the interior of this pub .but 6.80 for a pint of cheddar potholer and a pint of severn vale session 3.4 % is just taking the piss , and don't want someone coming back giving me the argument , oh well this is clifton. numpties.

My earliest experience of this pub was winning a pop quiz - almost single-handedly despite being in a gaggle of fellow students - and having a gallon of Smiles Best bestowed on us; most of which was consumed by me which was fine seeing as how I'd answered most of the questions! Spool forward a few months and it was boarded up thanks to various violent incidents; a year or two later it had become some poncey pseuds' corner called "Suzy's", and later still closure - and probable oblivion - beckoned. Fortunately someone has swooped in to rescue the Lansdown and has opened it up to become a stylish food and ale house, without divorcing itself from its Victorian roots. The ale selection found last week was similar to that outlined below, although we found the quality to be higher - whether we were lucky or the cellarmanship has improved in the last 6 months I can't say, but it's got to be a positive sign. Food was being served despite the unorthodox hour (5PM), and a hearty chilli con carne and wedges was enjoyed at the bar. Pleasant service by young barmaid, and punters were gradually trickling in. I think it is appealing to the Cliftonites but not the worst kind - part of this assumption derives from the prices, which aren't the greatest of value. But, given the leaps and bounds this establishment has taken in the last few years, I can only commend the latest incumbent's efforts and recommend you give it a try.

I would echo other people's comments about the good beer choice - Arbor Ales Oyster Stout, Potholer, Tribute, Barnstormer, and one from Severn Vale called Session. Not sure which, or if any of these are guests or permanent. It was a pity though that the quality wasn't really up there. Both the Potholer and the Session were served flat - the potholer was in particularly poor condition and the Stout didn't quite cut it either - and perhaps this is why it isn't in the GBG. Disappointing really and not cheap either - I think all ales were 3.30 plus per pint. . May give it another go to see if improved at some point. Well, maybe...

A decent, tucked away little pub with a spacious outside patio area. A good choice of beers on tap including Cheddar Ales Potholer and a good choice of ciders as well - Gaymers Pear, Addlestones, Thatcher's Gold and Stwofored Press. Well worth a visit.

This currently .and I even discount my local , which is excellent, my favourite pub in Bristol , Beer good choice of Ales , and not the usual one's b, f , you know . food limited menu aimed at the younger brigade burgers, fajitas etc , that said was excellent , .Bar staff polite .and friendly . I'm not a camra Member , but was there with a couple of mates who are . and pose the question , how in the hell is this not in the GBG

Shows promise with a reasonable choice of ales in good nick, all served with civility, attentiveness and efficiency. In fact at one point there seemed to be half a dozen behind the bar falling over themselves to offer to replenish my half finished pint in a manner that suggests I was a prime suspect for a 'mystery shopper'. One niggle is that there seemed to be very little room to pass stand-up drinkers, but it wasn't a major hassle. Seemed very popular and I would suggest it's definitely worth including in anyone's Clifton crawl.

great pub, serving great food, decent guest ales, and a pile of sunday papers, enough to keep me happy!

I had reservations about what had happened to this pub deep in the heart of Clifton, but it's getting better all the time. Decent guest beers, good value menu and the garden's good too.

since this has changed ownership the pub has gone downhill. The old decor has been removed but nothing else has been put up. The pub seems unfinished. Bring back bob
