Unfortunately, the other reviewer got it a bit wrong on the Real Ale.
Draught Bass is at the far end of the main bar served from a "Mirror Box" keg-style tap, transported via a "Flowjet" pump. But it's Real Ale and they get through best part of 4 x 18 Gallon Barrels a week of the stuff. "Flat Bass" as it's supposed to be in the Bristol area.
Courage Best is, surprisingly, a Guest Beer and is likely to be changed in the near future.

A basic, no frills, Victorian boozer on a corner plot in Sandy Park Road, it is quite a large establishment and includes a skittle alley as well as a couple of good sized bars.
The main bar is a basic affair in a sort of staggered L-shape, with old green carpet on the floors, rough plasterwork on the walls and an old brick fire-place to one side. A notice board advertised a Sunday meat raffle which always strikes me as a sign of a proper local’s pub, and in addition to that there were a few local photos on the walls. There was some old bench seating around the perimeter and plenty of red chairs.
A few TV’s were dotted around, many showing sports channels, but the volume was off and this was not intrusive. A number of fairly light were strung up above the bar and there was a darts board at one end. I think there may also have been a few more darts boards in the above bar, although we did not investigate this.
Beer choice was a little disappointing with Courage Best being the only real ale on. Ciders were Thatcher’s Dry and Thatcher’s Traditional.

The Sandringham management changed a couple of weeks ago and is now being run by Dan & Danny, two local lads with experience of running the place.
One noticeable improvement has been the consistency of the beer and especially the Draught Bass. They report that last week, the Bass outsold the Cider! Considering this is now the only pub/club in Brislington now selling Draught Bass, it is well worth a visit.
|
Courage Best @ 2.50 bolstering the already excellent Draught Bass and this is now the only Pub in Brislington selling it.
|
I bumped into someone today and they said that the Bistro up the road is a lot better than the Sandringham and that locals prefer the bistro style establishments like you get in North Street, Bedminster.
Do you go in the Sandringham I asked. No was the answer. Get rid of the Cider was another comment they made.
Spending an hour stood at the bar earlier this evening, one in five was drinking apple-derived alcohol. The rest were drinking everything but, including the excellent Draught Bass at 2.60.
In reality, it takes thirty minutes to give a pub a reputation that lasts thirty years!
Bottom line is its a great pub and has all the facilities nearby the other pubs in the area lack. Good Pub, nice people and a good night out!

The sandrigham pub in my opion is the best pub in brislington it offers a wide range of drinks ,a lovely garden for people to enjoy and a great community spirit, people always pull toghether when the chips are down its a great feeling to be apart of that . i think people put alot of negitives so my review is positive it takes 30 seconds to get a bad reputation and 30 years to get to get a clean one!. i think the landlord and landlady work hard and try there best ,the staff are hard working and try to plaese at all times .i think its a nice place to have a pint !.

Old Speckled Hen is on this week @ 2.50 as well as the Bass @ 2.60.

Good Bass - Need I say more?
|
Guest beer currently Courage Directors

No sign or the Redcoats when I called in this week, but there must be something going on as there are new CCTV cameras in the garden. Big Brother must want to know what's going on? Cider was nice though, and the Thatchers Dry is a lot better than the Blackthorn. Lots of former Bloomfield drinkers in here now... wonder why?

Called in last night (9:30pm) on the way home from work for an excellent pint of Bass, which at 2.50, is still quite reasonably priced. "Wifey" joined me and we had an enjoyable hour or so chin-wagging with old friends. There was a good crowd in and good atmosphere all round. Poker in the Bar adding to the busy Lounge crowd. "Dan the Man" in charge over the weekend, and as usual, doing an excellent job!
|
New bloke in charge, or is it the same regime with another name?
It's now a Holiday Camp - Red Coats included, and we all know where they come from and the name of the campsite!
If this carries on, it'll be the Pilgrim all over again and possibly end up the same as the Good Intent as well?
|
Went in Sunday and the old mob that were in the Pilgrim were in here again. Good Intent must have kicked a few out, as they were climbing over the garden wall to get in without the landlord seeing them.

The trial of guest beers goes on and seems to change like clockwork after every barrel runs out. Pedigree, Old Peculier, Directors, Pedigree, Broadside, Spitfire and more. Bass is still as good as ever and prices are still sensible.
I know there have been negative comments on the "Sange", but it's currently the only pub in the area with all the essentials; main bus route, Post Office, Chemist, Bookmakers, local shops etc. This remains a good, proper, local boozer.

Went in Saturday lunchtime and found Courage Directors is back again and not a bad pint either. Bass is my tipple and that's 100%. Very busy, what with the football team in and a bit more noisy than usual.
|
Called in last weekend and found some of the Pilgrim crew have moved in here. Atmosphere felt a bit heavy, so stayed for a pint but left after that and went into town on the bus.
|
Went in earlier and found Marston's Pedigree on at 2.20 a pint. Not bad, the place was very busy too.
|
Now got Abbot Ale @ 5% ABV.
|
Not a place to take the wife's mother.
|
Courage Directors on guest beer pump and only 2.20. More guest beers listed on the notice board.
|
Courage Best now replaced by Adnam's.
|
Plod was outside here big time last Saturday lunchtime. I'll follow Fromage Bloke to the Castle I think!
|
Don't like the look of the people hanging around the front door smoking and throwing fag ends onto the pavement. What is it like inside? I carried on and went to the Black Castle!
|
Joan_Crawford was right, it is local again and they got Alexei Sayle to look after the bar.
|
The main bar is always busy and the locals are friendly. There is very well kept Draught Bass, Courage Best as well as the usual S&N selection of keg beers & lagers. For the cider enthusiast, there is Thatchers Traditional and Taunton rough ciders as well as various bottled varieties.
The skittle alley is upstairs in the function room and there are regular darts, crib and poker matches held downstairs in either of the bars. This is one of the few pubs in the area that has Sky TV.
The garden has recently been paved and is probably the best beer garden in the Brislington area.

The Sandringham Hotel got a bad reputation a few years ago due to the poor management. Those days are long gone and the local troublemakers have been banned.
