Only decent pub in the area I could find after The Shakespeare has gone downhill.. Good ales. Good choice of local pub. Sometimes they do brilliant food as the landlord used to be a chef but its always spontaneous and decided on the day which is a shame as you cant plan for it

I like this place-full of chatacters and open mic nights on Thursdays-a bit off putting at first as some of the customers look decidedly dodgy-but it has always been a welcoming place.

bath gem and doombar on draught when visited. pub ok but nothing to go out of the way for, 6/10

Visited last Friday and all as described by previous reviewer 'Blackthorn'. Doom Bar and Tribute were available (1 pump clip turned around). Tribute was excellent and wish I had time to stay for another. Bar staff polite and good service, pub overall is good and bigger then you think from outside. Excellent local and wish it was closer to my home

This pub is now a quality boozer! The present landlord and landlady are bang on the money with their ideas... The pub used to be a dive & I would steer well clear, now I am finding myself frequenting the charming bar more and more.. There always seems to be something going on no matter what night I drop in... Much prefer this to the Shakespeare that seems rather pretentious and in need of a good scrub.

Much improved since my last visit, which was a few years ago. Its been done up and now seems to be a decent community pub, with an emphasis on music. They have live bands most Fridays and Saturdays, and an open mic night on a Thursday. There were some fairly serious looking speakers in the lounge, but fortunately these were not in use on our visit.
The bar area has a pool table and table football. Theres a plasma that was showing football, but that was in the lounge area which seems odd. It would have been better placed in the bar I would have thought, especially as it was on rather loudly and had just one guy watching it. Other than that, the lounge area is quite decent with comfy bench sofas around all the walls and some interesting local art.
Bar staff seemed friendly enough, and on this occasion were serving Doom Bar, Tribute and Flowers. Ciders were Stowford Press, Blackthorn and Thatchers Dry (coming soon).

NO ale on 2 subsequent visits. Stowford cider while waiting for my kebab. Music still too loud.

Revisited last night and had heard there was a range of ales on.
So. 3 handpumps. First was blank, second had turned around Hobgoblin on,and third had lifeless and flat BBF Gold. Loud 1990s megamix cd was blaring to ear bleed level. Tired ale was 2 a pint if any consolation and was served by a pleasant girl though. However some of the clientelle were "scary",shall we say.
Still wouldn't rush back.

My first attempt to visit here was in vain due to 6 idiots outside with a large unmuzzled Rottweiler blocking the door. Second effort was successful. The place is tidyed up but looked like the job was done on a budget in parts. Friendly barman/landlord,no ale though. Wouldn't rush back.

This pub has been recently refurbished and looks fantastic! The new landlord has obviously worked hard and wants to get it back to its former glory. The beer is well looked after and you will always get service with a smile! Come down to the Oxford and meet the new landlord!! (talk about blowing your own trumpet!)

Very, very shut. Some To Let signs though.

They made a real effort with this pub 20 years ago, and for a while it looked rather good and welcoming.
Now it looks dilapidated, both inside and out. A shame.
No ale so walked out. A waste, given the location.

I went in this pub once. Thought I was going to get shot as I was the only white person in there - and also the only one that wasn't a drug dealer. This pub should be shut. Very unfriendly
