Fairly average Wetherspoon's branch that was the best pub of four I visited in a wide-ranging Friday evening visit to South West London. The usual Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar were all on. They appeared to have had a Meet The Brewer event with the East London Brewery, probably last weekend. So, a few of their beers remained - Pale Ale, Foundation, Templar & Table Beer. Other guests were Exmoor Gold, Dorking DB One & Twickenham Redhead. There were also a couple of ciders in boxes in the fridge - Weston's Old Rosie & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. It was the only real cider I saw during the night. So, I took advantage. The pub was busy and very noisy. One particular lady managed to be much louder than anybody else and was causing quite a stir, with several complaints made to the bar staff. Her group had clearly been there for most of the afternoon and had almost certainly outstayed their welcome.

Oh my where are the wall clocks,no wonder some of the polite staff shout 10 mins at midnight which is not company policy!Service on my visits was good, although the short fella, dark hair with glasses needs to go to charm school, lacks customer skills. If I was doing my mystery shopper report he wouldn't be getting a good one on that.Food was good and the several beers tasted were good and table clearance adequate!
Beer been in good condition lately, beer festival beers been better than last few festivals.Staff are excellent, although you don't see the invisible manager at night times.HE NEEDS TO INFORM ALL THE STAFF THAT PUNTERS SHOULD GET AT LEAST 20 MINUTES DRINKING UP TIME,NOT 5/10 MINUTES THAT SEEMS TO BE THE CASE EXCEPT WHEN THE EASTERN EUROPEAN GIRL SHUTS.As for the bouncer at weekend, stop pestering the punters to drink up at 12.55AM and wanting us out by 1.05AM!THIS PUB ALWAYS GAVE 30 MINUTES DRINKING UP FOR MANY YEARS,20 MINS IS FAIR!
Visited a few times lately, enjoyed pints of Adnams Ghostship,Trueman Swift,Exmoor gold to name a few all in good order.Staff and service great.New manager hasn't been seen on night shifts but needs to sort out the drinking up time as it getting shorter and shorter,20 mins is fair!Dont appreciate bouncers coming round at 11.55,5 mins before last orders telling us to drink up,making us leave at 12.04 so they can get a McDonalds and their bus, this was on Wednesday night after England semi final.FRIDAY AND SATURDAY THE DOOR STAFF NEED TO BE TOLD TO GIVE THE CUSTOMERS 15/20 MINS DRINKING UP AND STOP COMING ROUND EVERY MINUTE TO DRINK UP!Know a few customers who go elsewhere because they are on!
New manager in last few months.Beer choice not as good and that's why the pint counter gone down by 300 a week!Beer quality a bit hit and miss too and since the sparklers have been used measures down! The table rearrangement I don't like, would have to be Twiggy to get into the space provided! On the plus side all the great staff are still here, hard workers and all great with customer service, thanks! The previous manager is a hard act to follow, but stick with, oakham, surrey hills,ELB,exmoor, cotleigh and drinkers will return!
By far the best spoons in the area.beer quality amazing, enjoyed some great beers from loddons, surrey hills,ELB,trumans, to name just a few.manager and staff here are fantastic.
Excellent beer quality, whoever is doing the cellar well done. Use this place weekends always seem to have good staff that work hard, apart from the S/African fella not the sharpest behind the bar. Tried the food a few times which was great.
Since the new manager took over, this place has improved, well done!Beer quality has got better, service and staff great!Enjoyed beers from lodden, surreyhills the last week.would be great if another craft beer could be added.vastly improved and worth a visit!
beer been ok on my visits, service good, food good.not sure why the management team haven't any common sense when dealing with nice regular customers, seems to be a your barred policy, rather than talk it through like adults.oh and are the staff aware of the wetherspoons code of conduct regarding drinking up time?seems that decent customers get barred while constant troublemakers aren't even spoken too!police incident last Thursday, wont do the pub image any good!

sorry to say the 2 beers I tried over the weekend were poor, went on the bottled beer as didn't want anymore disappointment!£2.60 for guest beers 20 odd pence dearer than other 2 Sutton spoons!

enjoyed Wimbledon brewery common pale ale 3.7% last night with mr weetoes.nice and quite and peaceful for this time of year.not sure where the £2.50 price for some of the weaker guest beers comes from, when the grapes charges £2.20 for any strength guest beer and ,moon on hill is cheaper.nonsuch use to be the cheapest of the local spoons!staff and service always good, shame they don't have a more inspirational manager!

now the guy who sorted the beer out has left, need to get someone in quickly.beer quality and choice hasn't been as good!also mr weetos been going to other spoons, due to beer giving him and also me dodgy guts.service from the bar is excellent, especially with the best ever spoons worker filling in for 3 weeks, while off from uni.
beer been a bit indifferent of late, doesnt help having 2 beers on from sambrooks and by the horns brewerys at same time .only saving grace is the surrey hills gilt complex which came on last night and was excellent!the better quality brewerys always go down better and turn over quicker!mr weetos has been on the 49 er as his guts have been suffering with some of the beer.can we set up a roof fund charity for him.service as good as ALWAYS!

in the last 2 nights, beer a bit hit and miss during this beer festival, get the odd good one which turnsover in a day and others that stick around a bit, more due to wetherspoons person who selects the same old brewerys for its festivals. a couple of the staff need to learn how to pour a pint,so we don't have to ask for a top up.but overall a good well run spoons, and the customers seem friendly .

been a good week down nonsuch, had adnams ghost ship, american ipa, dark star hophead, widsor and eton knights of the garter, all been in great condition.all types of beer I enjoy, lots of other darker and stronger ales on too, seem to turnover well in here.service seems to be in general good, only grip was the 2 guys last night having a mothers meeting at the end of bar, whilst me and other customers waited to get served.
anonymous - 16 Jan 2015 15:44 |

Smaller than average Wetherspoons & all the better for it. Good Ale. Got the feeling of a pub local about it, as opposed to your normal Spoon's supermarket drinking establishment
Ok spoons with good festival beers on.Few boisterous customers in.Climb to the toilets a bit much for us oldies.
plenty of beers on last night,2 wj kings, an ascot ,dorking and Windsor eton also Ringwood 49n and 4 other large brewery beers.brighton blond from kings, ascot by the rails and a light beer from Windsor were very good.
A typical Wetherspoons but smaller than most. The bar is located along the right hand wall with seating on the other side, including cubicles on the left hand side and far walls. It has 2 sets of 6 handpumps in the usual Wetherspoon's fashion. The far ones have the regular beers and the other the specials. The beer was good but could have been cooler. It was very popular and therefore rather noisey.
good pints of twickenham honey dark and windsor and eaton guardsman last night.service good with 4 staff on and still charging£2.15 for the beer when 2 wetherspoons in sutton are £2.29.

was passing tonight so gave this pub another try.was in for last hour, and tried the windsor and eton kohinoor and moorhouse white mist which were both ok pints.not many in and service was good.had 2 ciders on for the festival .
use to come in here a bit 10 years ago and 1st time in tonight for 5 years.well asked for woods beer which had just gone,so had an old hooky, which had to be taken back as cloudy and tasting off, which got changed for ok pint of naylors mild.then had a pint of dark star expresso stout which wasnt great.then went on to the ginger twist cider. as 3 of the guest beers had gone. a regular asked if some more beer could be put on which resulted in 2 beers being put on at 11.30 pm.had a hobgoblin which just come on and was good.the girl and boy serving worked hard and service was good, even offered a taster buy girl.forgot what a walk it is up to toilets,if i become a local maybe i get a key as well for down stairs toilet.beer could be a lot better, and i dont want to here about the bird with worms.liked the floor show of the 2 girls simulating sex.liked the drinking up time and boy only said youve got 5 mins to drink up at 12.20.sort beer out and i will return.
Dreadful place! Dirty tables, poor food, worst service, staff find it funny that clients swear at women at the bar while serious customers wait to be served. Avoid!
Been in this pub hundreds of times over the years. I am not bitter, never been barred or have any grudge against anyone in here. But its a dump, an utter dump, a shame as it could of been made into a fairly decent pub. The people that drink there don't help as 'coke' is a big thing, and the toilets are vile because of this. It is just going down hill, but as the regulars are a sorry bunch theres not much point doing this place up.
this and the Cap in Hand on the A3 at Hook are the worst two Wetherspoons pubs i know.am normally a Wetherspoons fan, never had a complaint about the food or drink, but this one the staff are rude, clueless and lazy and i was threatened by someone who claimed they were the manager when i complained about the food not only taking ages but being the wrong order."never again" (mickmuncher) is spot on.The Cap in Hand is actually WORSE,any nice beer runs out when barstaff finally get round to serving, and the food takes way way too long and is cold by the time you get it,served on a cold wet plate.
on the last visit and it will be the last visit it took an age to get served, the meal took so long to come . . when it did arive it was stone cold..never again
Wetherspoons product well represented here. Friendly if rather noisy group of regulars. VERY pleasant young girl happily let us try a couple of beers before selecting a perfect pint of Otter. She was also very helpful in giving directions to our next port of call.
Now Called "The Nonsuch Inn"
Well what can I say about this pub. The staff are rude in the extreme and if this is mentioned then they refuse to serve you. When you complain to the deputy manager she then makes excuses for them saying they are perfectly entitled not to serve you if they see fit. The food is usual weatherspoons standard. IE cold and unappetising. Or salad served on hot plates straight from the dishwasher. The beer is good though with a good choice available and of course their beer festivals make up for a lot of the shortfalls. Still as someone else said on annother board. Weatherspoons to beer is what macdonalds is too hamburgers.
I visit this pub frequently, mainly around lunch time - the beer is usually very good and there is plenty of choice. If Kristian is around you will find him very helpful and knowledgeable about the guest ales. You take a chance with the majority of the other barstaff though which usually consists of a number of surly Polish women who never smile, have no memory of which customer came to the bar ahead of another and keep shouting "who's next". They also tend to have difficulty in taking food orders which can result in a big build up of thirsty customers. Best days to visit for lunch are Mondays and Thursdays when Jo is on duty. She is like a breath of fresh air to the place with her welcoming smile and professional attitude, oh yeah, and Keily's nice too, and the Marzena that works part time.......
Went for lunch the other day and it wasn't too bad at all. The usual loud Wetherspoons drunks were happy, polite drunks, and they stayed out of our way. Got served promptly, and the food was good, actually. I'd go again.
Stopped off the other night (a Weds) and on the evidence of that visit, it's not a place for a quiet drink. True it was quiz night. But once quiz night was over it was still packed and with teens, who just kept piling through the door.
Quick food service, the usual Wetherspoons fayre. Several eastern European bar staff - one on her first day, didn't know how to serve Coke and Diet Coke.
Did have some slight different ales on offer (eg Deuchars IPA). All in all, a fairly average Wetherspoons. You get what you pay for.
Used to be a great pub, plenty of locals, decent beer. Ok, always attracted the usual ammount of fake teen gangster clones on a friday but it is a Wetherspoons. Since the South African influx it seems impossible to get a decent tasting pint or to be served. Not even sure who runs it these days, perhaps the inbred chav swathed in fake burberry does, at least thats the way it seems
anonymous - 1 Jul 2006 03:28 |
Chavs in weatherspoons??? NEVER!!!! come on ppl could be worse, you could av to drink in the queen vic or tones! shuddddddder!
me and my boyfriend went in for a quiet drink on a week night and managed to be verbally abused by at least three of the regulars as well as threatened! main reason being my boyfriend had a beard! stay away if you don't know people in there agree with previous comments must be hard for staff to smile working there very depressing!
Despite all the tossers, the new managers seem friendly enough and have got the beer back in. All we now need is a truck to plough into the pub one friday night and wipe out the entire front section thus ending any sort of procreation from the muppets that appear to think they own the place!
Where are their parents - Nick is my guess.

agree entirely with sickofitall, the pub has a decent set of regulars, who provide the life and the soul-and as for the staff, they do a fantastic job. complaints about them being miserable must be placed into context-how would you feel having to pander to the needs of the scumbags who drink in there, ranging from petty old men, to wannabe chavs, with their fake designer gear, who take over the place of a night-time. i have nothing but the greatest sympathy for them. Maybe if there was a greater mix of amicable customers, rather than downbeats and drugie deadbeats then they might have something to smile about. in the main, i find if you are polite to them, then they will be polite back. for christs sake, they have to deal with people who complain about having to pay an extra 20pence for a pint that stil will probably come to less than 1.50. have some respect people, as this is the best pub in the area, and at the end of the day, if you dont like it, then dont come back, as i think i speak for many when i say that you wont be missed. keep up the hard work mark, nmmet, lisa, dee, matt, colin, char, nicola, nicola, tom, aaron, gary, nicola, laura, tamer, stephen, gareth,jo, kelly, flick, mel, and all the other wonderful staff, those people who know what they are talking about know that you are both industrious and very easy on the eye.
Most people who drink in wetherspoons are either coffin dodging miserable sperm burpers or little wanna be ganster nothings. People moaning about this fantastic pub need their bumps felt. The bar staff are quite simply the best in south london. I'm fed up hearing 'no directors', and then seeing a look as if their first born has been run over. The only way to put a smile on these perpetual grey cloud lovers would be to slip a few drops of liquid mdma into their chewy beer. Personally i would relish the chance to line them up and machine each and every single bloody one of them!
only ever seats in non-smoking can wait up to 40mins to get served (literaly) and the bar staff seem drunk or tired all the time. Poor
Dancavr - 23 Jan 2004 13:02 |
cheap beer but smoking area too big. bar staff seem to run the place for their own convenience with the exception of Matt who is first class and a welcome change from the others.
dave - 15 Jan 2004 19:57 |
Cheap booze and good starting place for nite on the town. Bit of a grandads pub though cos wetherspoons pubs neva play music.
Natalie - 12 Jan 2004 17:25 |
Cheap, need I say more?
Lawrence - 2 Oct 2003 16:55 |
Only place to drink in North Cheam without getting stabbed, but that's about it.
Steve - 22 Aug 2003 16:47 |
Agree with the comments made so far. All weatherspoon staff are miserable but ok for a starting point as the beer is cheap. Only good thing about these pubs.
Anon - 14 Jul 2003 13:56 |
Real mixture of people Ok for a cheapo drink but apart from that has nowt else going for it. Bar staff are miserable as sin
typical wetherspoons, situated in an old supermarket.
