And I forgot to mention the gents' urinals! Very unusual and worth a look.

Lovely country pub which appears popular with a wide range of people, especially diners. The rear garden was packed with families and chickens wander round between the tables. I also noticed a pig, as I was heading back to the car park. Staff and customers take their ales seriously. All 4 ales were from Sussex. The 2 regular beers were Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter & Burning Sky Plateau. The 2 guest beers were Gun IPA & 360° West Coast Pale. They also had a not so local cider - Gwynt y Ddraig Happy Daze.

Recently re-opened after a long closure. Some refurbishment still to be done but a very nice pub with friendly staff, serving good food and beer including Harvey's and a range of guest beers. Fairly quiet on a mid week lunch time but hopefully trade will pick up. Well worth a visit.

Sold recently and bought by locals who have leased it to the guys who run the Snowdrop in Lewes. Impeccably decorated inside with various shades of green and some quirky "pieces". It has a very pleasing atmosphere. Jury still out on the mustard coloured outside though. Good food very similar to the Snowdrop and well kept beers. Not many locals there but presumably the place is still finding its feet. Although it's somewhat 'gastro' there were folk there just drinking who seemed welcome. There are outside benches and they have rooms.

Lovely location in Sussex countryside. Good food and beer and a welcoming atmosphere.

We were on the way back from Eastbourne to London and decided to stop at the pub on a Sunday for lunch. The menu was good English food with a fantastic local cheesebourd. The sun was up and the decking was inviting, albeit a little cold - fortunately the real fire was available (theyre always so busy in London). A great selection of wine (unlike other pubs we have been to) and as I found out selected by a specialist Vintner allowed us to chill out for the rest of the day - to the point where we picked up a B&B for the evening (boyfriend had too many ales). It pro-longed our stay which I can honestly say was as good as it gets in the country for me. Not another pub for miles, and the patrons were brilliant. Nice Change from London!

Under new management all is changing. I cannot believe the previous comments as the beer was fantastic, the food all fresh and from local sources, the atmosphere superb and the people all friendly.
They are even having a new decked area for 30 people outside the south facing front - I know where I'll be enjoying my Harveys.

Visited briefly towards the end of a boozy eveniing tour a while back. Never again. Very unfriendly. Harveys was crap and for some reason was served from a polypin on the bar when there was an unused handpump on the bar. We couldn't wait to move on.

I have been there just once and I would not repeat. The staff weren't very friendly. They made us wait to order the drinks and they made us wait again to order some food, even though the pub was empty!! The food was ok, nothing special but ok. The staff made us feel very unconfortable. They made a couple of comments that were out of order. We finished our food and drinks as quickly as possible and left. I agree there is something wrong about the place. I doesn't feel right, it does not feel welcoming. I will personally avoid going back. Thanks. B

Excellent pub, Really friendly if a little un-trained bar staff, spent ages playing with our kids and feeding them chocolate. Food was good portions very big so one main is enough, nothing fancy just good pub grub. warm and friendly staff and unpretentious which is very refreshing to up its bum lewes. Do sort out the smokey fire (it needs a throat putting in) though as it lingers on a otherwise good experience.

East Sussex. Known for being 'well to do' and slightly at the richer end of the counties of England. Why then does our search for decent pubs (mainly East, and a little north, or Lewes) turn up so few gems.
We've passed this one a thousand times and it always looks homely and just like a good country pub should do.
Step inside and we were transported to urban Essex. Girl behind bar was useless and not helpful, wine was warm, beer nothing special. A few locals ('locals' seems to draw images of greying farmers and countryfolk sipping their pint. This would be wrong, think young, think tracksuits)... where was I, oh yes, a few locals seemed to dominate the entire space from the bar outwards. but before i end...
Now, I'm not in to feng shui but there was something very wrong about this pub. The layout? the lighting? the table layout? don't know. Every table felt like it was sticking out like a sore thumb. The lighting was too bright and the fruit machines and quiz game machines didn't really fit in.
Couldn't get out quick enough (which was easy as the wine was undrinkable).
