Has little character or comfort. A pub for the lads and hard drinkers. Not somewhere you would take your Mum or your kids.

ladies, keep an eye out for the window cleaner, he's very handsome.

well, things are on the up, the lunatic has sold out, and the landlady is now the owner/landlady.still a good selection of ale, and kept well. food now on the menu, fish and chips monday and friday nights, and a very awesome roast sundays. can get noisey and a bit sweary, but then its a bloody good locals pub. its getting better, only hoping cellar gets done before summers arrival.
|
violently expensive, happy hour down to 1 cider, 1 lager, and 1 ale, NO hophead during happy hour for a couple of nights, and due to recent politics it aint gonna get better, the pub is going downhill fast and owner doesnt give a toss.a massively shit attitude. still a good selection of ale, but it aint gonna last......bugger

Really good pub. Very good to watch football in but don't get upset if your drink gets spilled, you'll be laughing too much anyway from the banter. Lively, friendly, no rip offs anywhere. Some very well qualified football viewers too in the shape of ex football player/managers.

it just gets better!! a 4th ale pump installed, harveys always on, usually a dark star on as well, plus 2 guest ales, damn good locals pub. also a draught perry on. loads of banter. without a shadow of doubt, the best boozer in the village.

The local pub in the village. Three real ales on handpump, well kept with two of these changing regularly. Not the trendiest pub, not a yuppy gastro experience, but a proper pub and there ain't many of those around nowadays.

Agree with everything that jayzcee has said. Just about the only pub i know round here that you can go in and say "can i have a ham and cheese roll please" I DONT want a meal and I DONT want crisps. Well done Poacher - keep it up :)

By far the better of the pubs in Hurstpierpoint - The new manager is a delight, the staff are friendly and helpful, locals are rife, and if they keep coming back for more it must say something. Agreed that it is a little dark and might benefit from tarting up, but then that's what makes it a typical 'pub' rather than turning it into some kind of wine bar and losing it's traditional values and regulars.
|
dark star hophead. go in and drink some. still a good locals pub.
|
The best pub in Hurst, but that's not saying much! To be fair the people & staff are friendly and the beer is ok. Good place to go and watch sport as well. Could do with a bit of tarting up.
|
good locals pub. selection of real ale is rubbish.
|
Good old fashioned pub, a little dingy but very friendly. Possibly the best pub grub in the area, simple, greasy and delicious with very generous portions. The regulars "ElDickster" mentioned were still there and watching cricket. This is how pubs should be.

Not been in for a couple of years, but this was a pretty decent little pub. Real country style - albeit on the High Street of the village. Real log fire, hardened drinkers propping up the bar. Not bad at all.
