This is a great pub and the ale is always mighty fine. The welcome and the food are second to none and there's a good mix of punters with a chilled vibe.

i am new to the area and was chuffed to see a nice looking local just around the corner. Trouble is its one of those pubs that appears to be style over substance. I have only had 3 pints in there and 2 of them have been off. To be fair the Harveys was good but the Bombardier and Doonbar were awful.
I have moved down from the West Mids where there are loads of pubs closing down. The only ones that are staying in business are the ones that look after their ale. The Hartington has everything else but if they ignore the quality of the ale they will be yet another pub shutting its doors for good.

This is my friend's local and it's a fantastic pub. New family owners have taken over recently and refurbished as it was looking a bit tatty. It retains a nice arty feel but very stylish. They're very friendly and the food is tasty, homemade fayre and they've brought in Aspalls which is my tipple! Well worth a visit.

Found this to be a great little pub. Standard local beers plus guest but well kept. Food seems to have improved since previous reports. Popular with local families

Always a pleasant atmosphere and very helpful, friendly, staff.

The 'snack food' I favour is always good and the beer well kept.

Can be busy.

The roast was tasty.. but not what i expect from a roast.. small sliced roast veg and slices of roast potatoes.. we had roast beef which was lovely but the roast chicken looked like it was in an insipid white sauce not gravy but may have been very tasty.. and it was a little over priced..at 9.. but lovely garden in the sun.. the staff didn't seem to quite know what was going on but i think that was more the confused sunday clientelle and not the staffs fault. Definately overpriced sunday roast, i was glad i shared one but tasty. And it was nice looking.

Had a delicious meal at the Hartington Friday night. Atmosphere cosy and lively, pubby and unpretentious. Harveys Best in fine form and the food was hot and imaginative, especially the outstanding vegetarian choices. Will be back!!!

Went to this pub on a monday night. Lovely pub, great food, helpful friendly staff. Would imagine it gets busy at the weekends but a lovely find. Will be going back soon!

Enjoyed a Sunday afternoon at The Hartington a few weeks ago. It has a nice, slightly bohemian/arty atmosphere and excellent Sussex on tap.

Food looked and tasted excellent, the only downside being that by the time we got to eat at about 15:00, 4 of the 6 lunch options were finished.

This is my local. The locals are lovely. Excellent atmosphere. Dodgy local art. Actually the garden is in a right state and needs repaving/decking/something, but its nice and quiet down there.

The food has gone downhill of late. Sunday roasts have become a disappointing and tasteless experience. Had to ask for our money back a few times. Their excuse - "too many customers" which is no excuse.

Still a lovely pub tho

I popped in the other night for dinner. Sublime. gorgeous food, beautifully presented, and not too hard on the pocket either. I also like that this is a dog-friendly pub. Has some adorable canine customers wandering about.

The Hartington was once my local. Foodwise; The Sunday Roasts are possibly the nest in Brighton, the tapas menu is inspired, and Monday night is Curry & Pint for 5...Nice!
They don't play the music too loud, and they don't make a feature out of sports. They show local artwork on the walls, and the staff are so friendly!
The decor is great and the graden is a real sun trap in the summer.
I just love this place.
