Much better now for not being a pub.

sorely missed used to be my first port of call before and after the match was going here on match days for about 20 years the guvnor when I first started using it did his best to ensure it was only home supporters who used it on match days stan bowels used to drink here also saw a number of past and present brentford players in here over the years mixing and enjoying a beer with there public

Met a few Brentford pals before the Wycombe game and was shocked to see this place had been turned into flats, in the old days it was were all the Brentford nutters drank. Looked a bit forlorn now
|
But they're not because it's being turned into flats.
|
I'd expect the Robert Rankin fan club might look into taking this place over.

I was a little disappointed to find this pub closed as I hadnt been in for about 12 years. There are signs up outside stating that the place is up for auction Anyone fancy buying a pub in Brentford?
|
I think this place is closed at the moment not sure when it will be re-opened

Went in here on Saturday 4/8/07 and found it to be a friendly enought pub. Few regulars in and all seemed very welcoming. Visited because of the Robert Rankin link and was wondering whether anyone in was one of the many colourful charcaters from his books.
|
The crowd at the bar may seem intimidating at first glance but don't be put off as I haven't seen any chavs in my (admittedly) few visits. The food is great value for money and is slightly different from the normal pub food - I had Japanese Pork and it was very tasty. The Green King IPA was pretty decent too!
|
Slightly limited sitting places at this pub. Quite an interesting selection of food on the menu. But only tried the beer, which was good
|
What a total dump of a pub! normally has a bunch of baseball capped gimps hanging around outside shouting abuse to passers by,mostly frequented by chav`s,not a friendly pub,if you just want to go for a quite drink avoid this dump! cause chances are you will be started on by the morons outside who cant handle their drink! quite a nice looking pub but just a shame about the retarded regulars!

I visited this pub last night (010305) and was incredibly disappointed. It was empty of people and character. The main room is sparsely decorated and sports gaudy orange painted walls. The beer (weak) was served in plastic 'glasses' and there was a TV blaring commentary without being properly tuned in. This was contending with loud pop music to produce noise.
All I can say to the pub's credit is that teh staff was friendly and the toilets unblocked.
If you go here seeking the mystic inspiration that affected Robert Rankin then you will be very upset.

Robert Ranking used to sit in the corner of the pub taking notes on what went on, No one took much notice until The Antipope was published, then more than a few people recogonised them selves.
the Flying Swan is an mixture of a few local pubs, But Mr Rankin claims it is the Bricklayers, and as he is the author who can argue

Yes, I believe this is the original of the 'Flying Swan'. It's a bit basic though, a small range of beers too; no real ale, at least when I visited.
|
didn't Robert Rankin apparently base his fictitious "Flying Swan" on this pub? a bit irrelevant i know, but no one's added any comments!
