We went to a live gig at this cafe bar the other night with some friends - haven't been for a while and it has been slightly re-decorated which is a considerable improvement. However, in all my time of going out I have seldom come across such incredibly rude, surly and downright offensive staff. Every request is met with a blank stare and a heavy sigh as if it's just all far, far too much trouble, the shaven-headed guy behind the bar positively growls at anyone daring to ask for drinks (a female friend thought he was 'scary')and the woman with shoulder-length dark hair who collected glasses etc, quite literally walked 'through' me, shouldering me physically out of her way with a snarl when I could get out of her way fast enough in a doorway.
To be honest, for Bradford (& I love Bradford) The Love Apple is a cut above the usual, but it's still a rather smelly (old food & dirty washcloths), tatty place with dodgy food cooked by a boy (he looked about 18) with long ginger dreadlocks dangling into the plates, and staff who seem to feel us punters are a dreadful imposition.
A few tweaks and this could be a great venue for a night out, as it is, we won't be returning unless there's an event there we really, desperately want to see.

This place outclasses the local opposition, such as the Wetherspoons or all the chainclubs (like Revolution). Food range good, and all very tasty. Ales limited but well-served. Staff very friendly. Good mix of interesting people go here: it's very handy for the theatre and arthouse cinema. It's shaken off its slightly Bohemian feel, but is still fun. Definitely worth a visit. Some of my best nights in Bradford have been here.
