I left Horwich as a 5 yr old in 1964. At some time before that my mum pulled beers at the Black Bull Pub. Just looked it up and was stoked to find out it's still there albeit as an Italian restaraunt called I'l Torro (still the bull). I'll have to come 'home one day to dine there even tho the reviews are'nt great! :)

Just a quick update... this pub has closed down and become a posh Italian restaurant called Il Toro (The Bull).
Pretentions above its station. Prices boarder on ass rape and everything arrives at the table in microwaved speed, at least you barely get time to look around at the damp patches on the ceiling and emulsioned over wall paper from the days when it was the Bull....... My sauce tasted like it had come out of a packet and the staff have been spotted at the cash and carry buying in their "home made" desserts. Still, a good place to show off your Range Rover and Rolex but your really just letting people know that money doesn't buy good taste.

Dined 3 times now and it's superb. You'll have to book well in advance for a weekend table for two.

I dont think the former post is justified having only visited once? I've been several times to this new restaurant and service and food the best out of Manchetser - give them another chance all restaurants have teething troubles!! I'll be going back again and again!

Now an Italian Restaurant called, Il Torro. Been once, not impressed. Service was terrible, a meal ordered for nine pm, started to be served at ten minutes past ten. No apology, no excuses, no reasons. Food was good, when we got it, but pricey. Must do better if it wants to maintain higher end reputation.

For those of you who are looking for the IL Toro telephone number, its 01204 697272
It's now open as an Italian Bar Restaurant; called, ironically 'Il Toro' ;-)
Is now in the stages of being turned into an Italian restaurant.
Was marginally better when it was open.
I've heard the restaurant deal fell through, maybe you could open it?

Now appears closed - can anyone confirm?
A shame if it becomes a restaurant, particularly as there is a pub-sized one currently up for lease just down the road. Horwich already has some fine and varied eating establishments. Is a pub with good potential as explored by previous landlord but urgently needs somebody to get it together again.
It will be nice to see it being used again, whether Horwich needs another Italian restaurant is debatable
Rumours are rife that its set to become an Italian restraunt, something needs doing with it as its looking pretty scruffy these days. Hard to think of a reason to go in really.
If it is ever open these dys you might be able to review it - once a popular pub with regular music nights, good food and well run
just when will it become Horwich's much needed restaurant
Once a very popular pub, nowadays seems to change landlords every couple of months, frequently closed.
