user reviews of the Stourvale, Christchurch

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

New management and not the best of the bunch by any way. Not the best of people to put into this pub. Regulars expect to be treated with some sort of respect and at least be served by someone who at least tries to be pleased to have a customer or two. Understand that they did come from a larger pub and that went down hill. Will try again in the next few weeks but dont hold out much hope.

Re: The other pub in Xchurch!

Come on ladies and gents...it must be awful for a landlord and landlady of a public house to see honest comments depicting them as an uncivilised, arrogant, ignorant and illiterate species that would be difficult to describe as human. Of course, Steve, the sad and ignorant idiot who runs this site ( and obviously employs totally inadequate lawyers( feeling, wrongly that this may be slander), will remove this post. However, even if it is only here for 5 minutes, then my request to the landlord of this pub is quite simply: you know where I live...have the guts to confront one on one without your minders!

This is a great pub, The people running it are friendly, know how to run a pub and make customers feel welcome. The bar staff are attractive and cheerful. The beer is always excellent, never flat and never short measured. The food is just the ticket, Curry and a pint for just over a fiver spot on! The beer is way cheaper than the pub down Fairmile road, value is terrific. The customers are a great bunch and I have never seen any aggro in there. I would recommend this pub to anyone

This pub in Christchurch is a nice place. I went in and because I had to drive all night ordered a non alcoholic beer. To my astonishment the overweight barman decided to clap, shout and do some kind of dance because of the beer order. What fatso didn't realise is its people like me that contribute to his wages. However, after all is said and done it is a fair old beer shop so will rate it as an 8. As for fatso, he should try saving some of his wages instead to knocking them out at the chippy.

First visit and was quite impressed. Clean friendly something for everyone. Ringwood Best was ok but not brilliant. My only concern was the number of dogs. Four legged ones that is and two of them were sitting at the bar. Really. Women holding their dogs like little babies. Sorry don't like dogs nor kids in pubs.

Really impressed by this pub. Nice hanging baskets outside which attract initial attention, staff really helpful. Manager offered to change tv channels for alternative soccer match & even put up a big screen for the recent Arsenal champions League match after clients asked. Food really good & beer fine while I was there Eldridge Pope Glory & Ringwood Best. Only problem is they only offer one real ale at a time something to do with cleaning the pipes which did sound a bit ify.

Yet another refit and a new menu. Apparently the food is very good these days but (and bear in mind this is a pub after all) the quality of the ale has nose dived. The Ringwood Best was in dismal condition last Saturday 16th Sept.

The pub gets very busy for sporting events, especially football matches. There is always a good atmosphere and friendly staff who get to know what you drink. There is a very good quiz on Thursday (picture round, music, general trivia). I do a few quizzes and this is a favourite - winner takes all style. T-shirt funniest team name etc. Lots of other events in the week. I'd certainly recommend it compared to others in the area. But agree it is quiet at lunchtimes.

Recently refurbished pub. Small garden out the back with kiddies playthings. One bar is billed as a Sports Bar and contains two pool tables and a fruit machine. Other bar has a fruit machine and a floor that - by design - is half carpeted and half wooden. Everything is generally bright and shiny which is the opposite of how it was pre makeover. They do serve a decent pint of Wadworth's 6X and a decent pint isn't something that has always been easy to get hold of in this place down the years. I was recently in there on a Sunday lunchtime and it was largely deserted. Why? (a) Because it doesn't do food (b) Although the refurbishment was long overdue they appear to have gone for the yoof market which is strange considering the area in which this pub is located. There are a couple of pubs nearer to Bournemouth Town Centre that could benefit from this type of makeover. Case of right makeover, wrong pub.
