Changed hands a few times since it was rebuilt in 2008. Currently only a food pub, fine dining.... popped in for a pint and got turned away, as I wasn''t having a meal. Landlord has attitude. Definitely not a drinkers pub anymore.

Steve and Dawn have been here for just over a year as I write and the pub is warm and welcoming. Having been all-but demolished it was rebuilt and then after that we never knew if it was open or shut. Following that transition period it is thriving again and our congratulations go to mine hosts. (We have been going here for over 30 years btw) Excellent few pints of Butcombe as the Otter had sold out following a sudden exceptional demand. Food looks and smells good too.

Hi there, As the new landlord at the White Post I am happy to inform everyone that this lovely little place will be open again by the end of September 2010. My name is Steve and my wife is Dawn, together with Lewis and Miles our children we will be happy to see you all when we get the doors open. The plan is not to change a great deal except to return it to the country pub it always used to be. The restaurant will be served by a Carvery and great homecooked blackboard specials, all at great prices. Beer wise is upto you the regulars, im very happy to put in what you want and like. The ensuite rooms upstairs will be decorated and made ready for the pub opening at very resonable rates. Our new telephone number is 01935 851525 and we plan to open from 11:00 till 23:00 7 days a week. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Fantastic news that the doors are open again and all seems well from the comments here. I too got wrong footed by the winter opening hours and we had to return to Sherborne and our usual haunt the Crown. Good to read the landlord is making a big effort and trying to please everyone. Not an easy task as often you end up pleasing no one when on that tack. However, im going to make a point of heading in there next time I am in the UK and the Sherborne area.

Doing my rounds again - popped in and had a pint of Butcombes, very well kept. Seems they have changed the basic pub menu to a great steak menu - wow, a 20 oz T bone aswell - my favorite. Did not have time for a meal, but menu is very reasonably priced considering the price of steaks these days. Friendly Landlord made me feel welcome. Great, no hooray henry's, just normal folk in having meals and a pint. Will definately be back.

Hello, I am the landlord of the White Post Inn. Thank you for all your comments. Much appreciated. We have had loads of teething problems considering this pub was knocked down to the foundations and rebuilt. The cellar was a bare shell when we moved in. All beer coolers and lines had to be installed from scratch. The bar is small, but the restaurant is large (36 coverts). We have to cater for locals in the nearby towns of Rimpton and Adber, afterall, this is their "local". They want to listen to music, play pool and have a pint. The restaurant is for anyone who wants a home prepared and cooked pub meal. People seem to think that the White Post Inn is just a restaurant - NO, its not, its a pub, a bed & breakfast and a restaurant. It is our intention to cater for everyone, not just a minority who want a meal out. Want a top restaurant, go to Yeovil. Want a good pub meal, come to us. Want a good pint and play pool, come to us. If you like our establishment - tell your friends. If you dont like our establishment - tell us, so we can try improve, afterall, no-one is perfect...!!!

Bass, Butcombe and Bombardier on offer when I finally got in here......all in good condition. Friendly reception from leaseholding Publican.
rather small bar, full of Pool table and huge TV and obligatory Bandit....shame.
will visit again for further ale samples,

Sorry, forgot to mention - previous comments say the pub only opens at 4pm. It opens at noon every day (6 days a week, but only opens at 4pm on Mondays). Closes between 3pm and 4:30pm on weekdays with exception of Mondays. I have noticed most other country pubs in the area are either closed all day on Monday and some on Tuesday. At least this one is open on Monday nights for a swift one on the way home from work....

Great to have this pub open again after three years. Good Ale's and the tradition of having Butcombes on tap for the past 20 years (plus), has been maintained. They had some teething problems when the new cellar install was done and the Ale's were coming out too cold. This has now been rectified and the Ale lines have been separated from the lager python. Well worth a visit. Food is good too. The views are to die for.

well I've been.... but couldn't get in. According to the pub web-site this place is now supposed to be open all day all week. Dont believe it. I called by on Wed at 3.30pm, to find a note on the door saying closed until 4.30 pm every week day. Not a good new start. brand new interior, 3 ales on handpump, small bar, carpetted, clean paintwork of course...large lounge/eating room, big picture windows to take most advantage of the rural view. so 4 for fittings, 0 for ale, 0 for accuracy of advertising.....I may try again if passing.

watch this space you BITE regulars....The White Post is open again (20th March 2008 I'm told)... my up-date report will follow soon...

Anyone know whats happened here? Flashed past in the car a while back and saw the roof was off.

Interesting pub this.... with one bar in Dorset and the other in Somerset. Not much choice on ale and a bit too food orientated which is a bit on the pricey side for glorified pub grub. Landlord is a cracking bloke and if you are wondering about the accent.... he is Swedish!
