Clearly I cursed this pub in my last post because I said it was still going strong Sadly it has now appeared to have bitten the dust and rumours are it won’t reopen

Still going strong despite what the last post 10 years ago said.Very busy on a Sunday evening albeit a bank holiday weekend.Mixture of young and old with several young ones in suits I did my usual trick of entering the pub just as everyone else wanted to reorder but the pretty and efficient barmaid who despite being on her own multi tasked and cleared the bar quickly I’m not a local to Yeovil so perhaps my first visit will be my last for at least a year but given the chance I’ll return

Another change of manager - this one seems to have driven away most of the customers! 2 people in, no food and precious little atmosphere. The next pub to close in Yeovil perhaps?
|
Another visit paid today. the beer range is much improved - Ringwood Best, 49er and Hobgoblin today. Apparently the food is good, and needs to be tried soon. Well worth a visit. Pubs this good need to be supported. Too many traditional locals are going under.

Since my last post, this pub has changed hands again. There seems also to be a reasonable food menu, although I haven't tried it yet. Perhaps the glory days are returning.

Yes indeed, new management (again). All the interesting local pictures have gone. Quite a good atmosphere though, and a good pint of Jimmy Riddle, from Piddle Brewery, which was well kept. Now if this pub did food again - could be a goldmine!
|
Revisited yesterday on an afternoon crawl - my first return since the new management. Beers on were Directors (not kept too well and quite disappointing) and Courage Best (which was much better. Atmosphere still spoilt by noisy, self-opinionated regulars.

Disappointing - national brand beer at 3
|
AMMENDMENT - 'They hate' should read 'they had'.........must stop drinking so much, lol !!!!!
|
Popped back in yesterday. They hate Yeovil Ales -Glory and (what looked like Courage Best - hard to tell as the pump clip was missing but everyone being served from that pump got the contents in a Courage glass!!). My 'Glory' was spot on. Good pub, but for the annoying old fart sat at the corner of the bar gobbing off to anyone who could be bothered to listen.

Well, well, the Pall Tavern. I knew this place in the 80's when Gideon & Mary Ann Corbett were the licensees. We all flocked here when the Duke of York became 'Buddy's' (what a joke that was). I visited for the first time in over 20 years this week. It's now lacking the old restaurant at the back of the building but other than that it's still the same small little place that it use to be. The beer was good and the welcome was friendly enough. This place brings back memories of a girl called Karen.......but that's another story.
Plus point - they have live bands!! Bit tight for space but, hey ho!!

best pub in yeovil.great landlords, easy going place full of characters . drink well looked after. but they realy need to get backs on them stools cos u feel so relaxed u might fall off and land on a wee dog?

A return visit. The smell of paint has gone, and the tenants are now living in, so things are improving. Ruddles Best and Courage Best (2.10 a pint) were on - the London Pride wasn't. Apparently trade is picking up well, particularly at weekends. Still needs personalisation though - some pictures on the walls would help. Noted that the loos have been revamped - not before time.
|
This pub is now open again, run by a previous member of bar staff. Rather bare at present - no pictures on walls, and some lack of furniture - taken by previous tenants, I suspect. Apparently they made rather a mess of the upstairs rooms as well. Smell of paint in bar quite strong, but will improve. On my visit, they had 3 real ales on, Ruddles Best, Directors and London Pride - the latter was well kept. They were busy the first night, and some of the old regulars barred by the previous people have returned. Worth a try - things can only get better.

Tried to visit yesterday (16/8/09) and noticed this pub was closed with bankrupcy notices in the windows. Such a shame as is the only pub in Yeovil which is in the GBG
|
One of the better pubs in Yeovil - by far - and off the main drag just enough to detract the crowds who struggle to walk 100 yards! Very friendly staff and ales kept well but fairly limited range (Old Speckled Hen, Beachcomber and Ruddles). I would have ranked it higher but for the loud-mouthed, self-opinionated, bigotted 'regular' who wouldn't shut up whining on and on about alcoholics and drug addicts.

Nice old style boozer. Good beer and generally speaking a pleasant enough crowd of fellow drinkers make this place about the best there is in Yeovil.
|
There should be more town centre pubs about like this one! Superb.

went back to this pub after having moved away. Got a warm welcome. Standard has been maintained. Moira and Geoff are very friendly and make everyone welcome whether you are a regular or just passing through. Sunday lunches to die for and all home cooked. If youa re in Yeovil visit this pub as you will not be disapointed.

An old pub well updated, I have stayed in the rooms and they are clean and comfy with all mod cons.. great bar staff too.

A friendly local pub in the middle of town. Moira and Geoff are very good landlords who also let out clean, decent rooms with a wonderful cooked breakfast. A collection of garrulous locals make this pub a little gem for chatting over a good pint of ale. Not for the young and trendy crowd who want loud music. Ade the barmanager is brilliant.
