please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Very much closed and boarded up on Sunday 24th November. No notice or indication anywhere of who, what, why, and how etc., etc.
Fingers crossed that this once great destination pub will soon re-open under a new guise.

Visited lunchtime, cold despite log fire, menu limited.
Fish & Chips poor, soggy batter, greasy under cooked chips. Ham, egg & potato wedges not good. Rather fatty ham, over cooked egg & wedges so hard could hardley eat them. Might be better in the evening but shan't be trying again.

After staying at the brokerswood campsite we stopped by the Kicking Donkey pub
we tried the 2 for 1 menu and have to say the portions we good but the food was excellent, the kids played in the garden and we sat outside enjoying the atmosphere the staff were pleasant and friendly . They have a wippet dog who was the centre of attention. Fully recommend this pub. see you on our next visit. Well done to the Landlady for keeping the pub clean tidy and great beers.

This pub has a real country feel with a couple of gardens either side of the lane. We sat on the pub side of the lane, where a large amount of flies made relaxing difficult. Over the road, the childrens' play area made for a less appealing option than the flies! The interior is quite large with a bar and an interconnecting dining area. Nobody was eating on our visit. Real ales on were Butcombe Best, Wadworth 6X and Sharps Doom Bar. There were 3 unused handpulls. The cider was Stowford Press. A framed photograph in the bar proudly shows a horse visiting the bar itself, which is a little strange. Despite the flies, the gardens are peaceful and afford excellent views over to the Westbury White Horse.

DONT BOTHER!! Me and 2 friends went for lunch today with our babies - it was quiet but assume teh landlady was at the bar chatting to some regulars in which she said ' dunno what them lot are doing over there' meaning us with our babies - in the end we went over and asked for a menu in which the landlady and young girl at bar handed over..no chat of specials and generally a really bad attitude - if it wasnt for the hassle of getting 3 babies back into car and finding somewhere else then we would have walked out there and then!!
We had lunch which was ok - not brilliant - and again miserable staff and service! In fact made us feel quite uncomfortable!!
Really dissapointed as was recommended and could have been an ideal meeting point for a group of mums...
WILL NOT BE GOING AGAIN!!!!!

Yes: the food is not what it used to be. A shame... The beer is OK if you fancy a pint.

We went out for my daughters 4th Birthday meal. The beer garden and pub was very good especially for kids but I'm sad to say the food was awful. I ordered Fish & Chips, the few chips were from a packet (frozen) and the fish was very disappointing and small. On the menu it says served with tartare sauce this was from a sachet. The rest of the meals were below average (tagliatelle, jacket potato, ham egg and chips). On the whole this was a very disappointing experience; ideal for spending the afternoon drinking in a sunny beer garden. If its food youre after give this a miss, I wish I had.

The choice of beers on tap was good and it drank very well- especially the Doombar. Lovely bar staff and we were made to feel very welcome. Pleasant enough place for a family pub lunch- although the bar menu is hardly inspired- the food was plentiful and tasty.

This is one of the best pubs in the area.
The beer is always well kept and the manager is very enthusiastic about it. The staff and locals are friendly. Food is good. Children are welcome and there is a large garden opposite with play equipment. I've been here dozens of times and I've never been disappointed.

Brilliant food, warm friendly atmosphere and a good choice of drinks. My kind of pub!

Pleasant and interesting country pub not far from Brokerswood Country Park. Large garden with kids play area, wonderful on a summers evening or lunchtime. Good changing selection of live beer. Draught cider. Seems popular for food but I have not eaten there for a long time.
