Red Lion, Heytesburyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
This was the last pub of the night of a rural pub crawl of Wiltshire. The pub did not re-open until 6pm. We had initially arrived when it was closed. On arrival, it was a bit cold inside. But we decided to eat. This proved to be a bit of a mistake. A group of local residents were soon to arrive to host a quiz night, in aid of a new church roof. The look of shock and horror on their faces when they saw us sat at their usual table was priceless. It caused chaos as the usual occupants sat at somebody else's table displacing somebody else and confusion reigned. We were approached several times asking if we would be leaving, somebody put a coat down next to us, somebody tried putting a reserved sign down on the table and finally somebody came and joined us at the table. The quiz night had proven much more popular than anybody had expected and the owners were struggling to cope. The food was ok and the beers were Doom Bar & Pride. An amusing evening which culminating in us asking if we'd like to contribute to the church roof. I smiled and politely declined!

All these comments are waaaaay out of date. The new landlords have been there for a year now and have made huge improvements in the food, service and accommodations. This is a good honest village pub, like they used to be!

Friendly and pleasant. Well kept cask ale. Snug area for those who want a quiet chat. Games room at the back of the pub, so no danger of getting prodded by a pool cue whilst supping ale or eating. Food good. Very large sunny garden with a river at the bottom, great to relax in when the weather is good. Also has accommodation for the weary traveler.

Visited recently and very disappointing food, albeit friendly staff. Game was very poor and tough, as was lasagne. Only the ham, egg & chips was up to scratch.

This pub has been completely refurbished and is now crisp and clean. It is unpretentious and straightforward; the food is hearty rather than delicate and the welcome is genuine. In summary the Red Lion is a very good village pub.

Straightforward decent unpretentious boozer. Only one Cask bitter on, but well kept. Food cheap and good.
