I only came here once. I liked it though. Friendly staff, chatty locals. I was rather drunk at the time however. It might appear slightly intimidating to a non regular, but it's worth a visit. Amazing building too.

Brilliant local pub with Doombar that I like, and friendly staff and customers, just like pubs used to be. Wonderful views etc. Hope it goes on like this for many years. Mother has been there over 45years now!

Called in again today on the way home from the station. A couple of pints of Rich's cider and a quick chat with the locals. A really great little locals drinking house.

If you understand about really good pubs, you will understand and indeed love this place. Dont get up here as often as I would like as usually have to drive 15/20 minutes home, but goes down with the Seymour in Witham and Tuckers at Faulkland as one of the great pubs of Somerset.

BEST PUB IN THE UNIVERSE! I had the pleasure of meeting Mother some 10 years ago and as an ex-landlord myself, marvel at the gorgeous creature! She owns what can only be described as the last bastion of a Local and commands respect from everyone who has ever been blessed with the opportunity to visit. She also suffers no nonsense, and her direct talk of sense and good manners fills this unique menagerie with a whole cross section of ages that create a warm and friendly melting pot. The views across town are magnificent; the Shove Ha'penny slate is the best one could play on (even boasting the obligatory heat lamp;) the standard of Table Skittle play is breathtaking (Don't ever take on Mother though!!!;) the displayed paintings by passing artists who have also fallen in love with the place, can occupy you for hours...and the standard of ales and ciders is tip-top! For those that are not overly familier with the delights of "Rich's Farmhouse" Cider...treat with respect....where else can one get glowingly merry on a tenner! .....and if you ask nicely; the canny Caroline may allow you the keys to decend to the cellar and witness the perfectly intact 17th Century Ice Well that further installs ones appreciation of just how timelessly perfect this unique place is!!! Thank you Mother, Caroline, Sue, John, Ben for serving me and all my friends and family who are always as equally enthralled, and thank you to every other customer who make up the most eclectic and friendly athmosphere ever to be found in a public house!!!

Nice locals pub with a lovely view from the back room of Frome. Doom Bar on tap which was nice enough.
|
An interesting survivor. A 2 roomed pub with a central servery. Apart from a repaint (probably after the smoking ban!) it looks little changed over the years.
Old Speckled Hen and Riches Cider on offer. A great locals pub which still makes strangers seem welcome.
|
The best pub in Frome. Packed full of character and indeed characters. All of the traditional pub games are available. The views over the town and surrounding countryside are wonderful. The choice of real ale is limited but one will do! I cannot rate this pub highly enough
|
Certainly an excellent pub. Well-kept Rich's cider. (But steep curving stairs to toilets likely to be difficult for disabled people).
|
This is Mother's pub, and the best pub in Frome for me. I've spent many a happy hour with my two mates from Godalming who also think it's the best pub in the world. I remember a great afternoon playing bar skittles with caroline the barmaid, and at one point we were honoured when Mother herself came and played. Great character, interesting people to talk to, can't praise it highly enough.

Absolute gem. A genuine 'Life on Mars' experiance circa 1971. Very friendly staff and locals and an esential visit when in town. Not much for ale drinkers(Old Speckled Hen), but there is Rich's cider. Just one suggestion: get a more interesting beer from the Milk Street Brewery down the hill. Otherwise excellent. And there's a great view over Frome from the back bar.

The Best Pub in the World with the most gorgeous 80yr old landlady....the last bastion of the proper boozer!!!!
|
A traditional three room layout to this historic pub - the decor has its origins in the 1960s, although the brown vinyl seats have now gone! Nice views over Frome and countryside beyond from the public bar. Having not visited for a number of years, I was pleased to see London Pride on handpump, joining the previous range of keg beers and the excellent Rich's cider! It's definitely worth trying this pub - you'll love it or hate it...

Period charm in buckets, the period being about 1971. But in the true spirit of 1971 the beer is Toby or some other Bass dishwater.
