Excellent pint of Gem, service pleasant enough anf great views out the back. But can't escape from the impression that this a a restaurant with a bar.

A shame indeed. If you can`t be polite to your customers maybe you are in the wrong job!!

That's a shame, as I find him very friendly, however, like everyone else, maybe he was having a bad day?

Returned here today for a special birhday lunch with friends. The food was OK but the place was dead and empty and the landlord`s attitude less than friendly. Will we bother to return? Not at all likely.

Couldn't resist stopping for a quick pint of Wadworths bitter on the way home. Well, a bit of a detour really, but always worthwhile.
Excellent pub.

Recent advertising to the effect that this place is now open on Mondays (as well as other days) means I shall return soon.
It's a worthwhile diversion (nobody goes past it en route to anywhere) and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

We ate here at lunchtime and had a most enjoyable experience. The staff were pleasant and efficient and the food was some of the best we have had for a long time.It was nicely presented and tasted even better. The view from our terrace table was over the adjoining peaceful countryside. Not the cheapest but quality doesn`t come cheap. Well worth the visit.

Made the mistake of going bacl on a (non-Bank holiday) Monday.
This seems to be their day off.
(Nobugger wants to have drink or a meal on Mondays, do they?)

Stopped here for a couple of pints on the way back from a foray into foreign parts (Wiltshire). Absolutely brilliant!
Next time we'll go for the food, as the menu looked very tempting.
The toilets here have to be the best of any in the country; not only handwash, but lotion too! Beer was in perfect nick, and the management/proprietors are spot on. They have several awards for their food, so I shall definitely be back to sample it, as well as a few more beers.

Ate here over the Easter weekend and the food was lovely and really well priced too.
Our one complaint would be that their new restaurant area out the back felt too clinical and not homely enough for a country pub. There were at least 7 other groups of people in there the evening we ate but it felt empty. It needs breaking up somewhat. We left having had a nice meal but walked out looking at what must have been the old dining area and wishing that we had eaten in there instead!

Eaten here a bunch of times and never had a bad meal. So many places just aren't worth the money thesedays, and althought it isn't cheap (not over the top expensive either) you at least feel the chef and the staff have given you something decent in return for your hard earn't cash. Oh, and at the time of writing this they do a very decent set menu for a tenner on a tuesday evening. A very highly recommended establishment.

food & ale quite presentable....but the place hasn't quite got that vibrant pub feel that makes a cracking country inn.
a gently sedate place more like...

A little gem in the middle of the somerset countryside.

The food is absolutely excellent and the waitress very charming. I had the local venison casserole with local vegetables and it was gorgeous.(10.50)

Washed down with a well kept pint of Bath Gem. There were 2 or 3 other handpump beers to choose from.

If you are in the area this is definitely worth a visit, don't baulk at the price you definitely get value for money.

My wife and I stayed there for two nights and were both astonished at the quality of the food. The landlord prides himself on knowing the source of all of his food to a level of detail unmatched (sadly) by most UK restaurants. The staff were very friendly and the cooking was comparable with anything we have eaten in London. The cost of the food, drink and accommodation was less than the cost of a meal alone in some restaurants that I ahve been to recemtly in the West End.
