Pub has some great bottled beers and plenty of comfy seats and decent looking food but somehow lacks a little X factor. I would take my missus here but perhaps not my mates.

I really enjoyed my visit to The Brass Monkey on St Patrick's. Most of all because I managed to escape from the St Paddy-weirdo's in town (there were not a whole lot of 'em around in the Monkey) and second of all because of the really nice service. I spent a few hours reading a book untill one of the bar men came along to bring me some FREE scones. They were super tasty! Thanks :)

Decent pub with a very laid back atmosphere, appears to attract a few of the trippy ex student types.... The service can be slow though.

The foreign barmaid, obviously struggling, charged me less than two quid for the first round. Bargain.
The comment below about having sex on the bed isn't from me, by the way. Just wanted to make that clear.

Just to make it clear, the staff DO OBJECT if you try to have sex with someone on the bed.

between the plush seating, the charming ambience and deco, and quality, reasonably priced drinks, the brass monkey is probably one of the best bars in edinburgh. it does get crowded on weekend nights, but what decent place doesn't?

I've been going to the Brass Monkey for quite a while now and its by far, my favourite. Staff are kool, real nice to talk to, good music, the cinema, the BED! ...now thats a nice touch I must say. I highly recommend it!

I'm surprised the two folk leaving comments before me haven't mentioned the back cinema room in more detail. It must be truly unique, in Edinburgh at least, for having no seats, just one massive bed taking up pretty well the entire room. There's a narrow gap up the middle to get in, and on a busy night you can get a couple of dozen people all lounging around horizontally... What an atmosphere!

Fantastic place, can't wait to go back. Cinema, decent beer, pinball and table football. Usually pretty packed.

I have only just found this bar but it is already a favourite. There is a cinema room out the back, and you can choose what film to watch. The choice of beers is great with Red Stripe on tap and there are some great framed prints etc. on the walls.
