New Inn, Walsallback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Well worth visiting this establishment, it has now got the accolade of the second best pub in the whole of the Walsall area ( Camra ) only beaten by its sister pub the Black country arms. This cosy, friendly, supplier of good food, banter and brilliant beers is not to be missed. No juke box or gaming machines, only real people for entertainment.

Its just had a brilliant beer festival, the place was absolutely rammed all the time. Thanks to everyone behind the bar, kitchen and cellar, you were great. What a shame the Thornbridge ales were in small casks, I suppose it gave the other very fine ales a chance.

This is a cracking little pub, it has reverted back to its original name the 'New Inns' aka 'The Pretty Bricks'. 8 handpulls are all charged with good beer and a pleasant place to be in, both customers, bar staff and landlady. I already have made this a regular haunt, you can only thank them for not letting this one die.

Bobbed in last Saturday evening about 6.30. About 10 people in of a certain age, 8 beers in[seems ambitious?] including, in the lounge, 3 Black Country beers and 1 from Backyard. Beer good, decor sympathetic if unoriginal, warm welcome. Not sure about the background music. I wish them all the best given the apparent ups and downs recently.Certainly it's the best of the pubs in the vicinity [and there are several...]

Well it's been a while and a lot of ups and downs for this great pub but at last the "bricks" is back to being the great back street real ale pub it always was.
The new landlord is friendly, welcoming and keeps a good pint. There are usually 5 or 6 cask ales on including Highgate Dark Mild, Teltleys Cask and Green King IPA with several guest ales.
A great pub getting back to its best.

Update: The pub has returned to its original name, The New Inns. It is affectionally know as the Pretty Bricks, though it has never had that name officially, so the gaffer told me.
The exterior to this small detached pub has a top half of white render and a lower half of brown ceramic tile. It looks fantastic. There is a beer patio.
The interior has two rooms, either side of a central bar. The decor is a mix of wood panel, wallpaper and red walls. There are lots of old pictures and prints, some nice tiled fireplaces and a mix of pew seating in the bar and red leather in the lounge. Very traditional. The sevive is very good, clientele small that i have seen - most of the young 'uns go to the British Oak near next door. The also do food.
Beer; tap stuff, with Enville Ale (class), Theakston's Bitter and Abbot Ale on handpull. The place used to serve twice as many, but not since it re-opened.
A super little place - it would be great to see it expand again - though three pumps is really enough

Great news, the pub has re-opened

A retired lecturer became the new manager a few months ago. He was totally committed to The Pretty Bricks being a success and mounted an impressive publicity campaign for the pub, with articles written about it in The Daily Telegraph and other national and local newspapers. He has now left. The pub has been shut now for over a week. The ex-manager blames the lack of support from the Pubco that owns it. I was a regular and I've seen seen some excellent managers arrive with enthusiasm and leave in sorrow. John, who was the manager a few years ago when it was packed most nights, left because the owners kept putting his rent up. Companies like Punch Taverns have been squeezing their managers for years now with the result being that they are leaving in droves. Punch have said that because of the economic climate they will be giving their managers discounts. Pubco's like Punch don't see themselves like the old breweries such as Ansells and M & B did, they see themselves as companies that make money out of the properties they own e.g. the pubs. Lets hope they change their business philosophy before it is too late.

This was a great pub years ago with fantastic food and great beer selection run by a guy who knew just how to please his customers. When he left (about 3 years ago) it rapidly went down hill, and the regular customers left.
in late 2007 a new boss (ex barman Matt of the Vic/Katz) went in and it improved considerably, but he has now moved on after the owners decided to change the interior.
Have heard mixed reports since, but non especially encouraging, though have yet to visit again, but maybe I should just to see !

Poor selection of beers. Not yet up to the standard of previous years.
|
A great traditional pub, seemingly a bit out of place in its surroundings. Friendly and relaxed. Really good real ale selection, however, no Mild - so for me the rating goes down a bit.
|
A great traditional style real ale pub that has true character
|
8 different draught beers. Good home madefood. No TV, Jukebox or pool table. No idiots or yobs. Good friendly atmosphere.
