user reviews of the Nettlebridge Inn, Oakhill

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I've not been back since my last (long ago) stop, but I now suspect that "Lekker" meant the George at Gurney Slade, rather than this sad place... or perhaps not. Anyway I suspect that "Lekker" doesn't visit many pubs, if either this or the George in Gurney Slade is that good for her.

Where's this George then?
I know this place used to be known as the Jubilee, but George?
By the way, I've never had a decent pint of beer at this pub, and that's what this site is about is it not?

Not inpressed with this place. Agree on things what 'Jeezii' said about the Instant Mash .. two of my friends on our table had meals with mash in and we could all easily tell it was instant mash what was used to make the food. 'Lekker' regarding your question to 'Jeezii' asking about how he/she managed to get into the kitchen. Our table was sat out the back of the restaurant and there are two doors where you can clearly see into the kitchen, if i remember rightly there is one door near to the 'out-back' toilets and also as you walk into the back room. Our table also noticed the loud noice of shouting and swaering coming from the kitchen, surely thats not to nicest thing you want to hear while eating your meal?!!!?!! Working in the restaurant business myself i would prefer my staff to have manners and look/dress smart, i found with the waiting staff here they looked abit 'dirty' and 'untidy' also what made our table laugh was as we walked into the pub the chef was stood out in the bar with his dirty chef 'whites' on. Personally i dont think thats a very good impression! We will not be going back.

Stopped by briefly, but not impressed (though it clearly has its fans). Fairly ordinary, perhaps decorated by someone who is colour-blind. I can't really agree with "lekker's" cheerleading for the place, but those who were eating seemed to be enjoying their meals--more than the people who just wanted a pint were enjoying the drinks.

What a lovely and colourful place to eat - not bright orange - but more along the lines of the Mediteranean colours - so what? the countryside of Oakhill is able to boast about a good place to eat, and thank goodness the colour doesn't affect the taste of ones food. We have moved on from the dreary days of grey stone and brick - just like we have moved on from the memories of Butlins Holiday camps in the 60's!
Be adventurous - enjoy great meals at the George - you'll not regret the experience. Glad to see "theme evenings" are popular too. Well done to management AND friendly staff. Must be good if you have soooo many connoisseurs that call in to eat often. Judge not, but first look at how full the car park is - can't ALL be critics?

In response to the last posting in February 2009 - wow - a very sad person that really sounds hard to please. Wonder how he got into the kitchen? We are made to feel like family there, and yes, we really do enjoy the food that is why we go every two weeks when we travel from Buckinghamshire to visit my parents. In fact, last week-end, on our arrival, we were very surprised to even have a table - the place was packed and I might add, WITH regular patrons too (we always go on Saturdays). It is a pleasure to experience such hospitality and good food on every visit we have made over the last couple of years with Tony and Kerrie at the helm. Their staff have always been very helpful and courteous at all times. I just hope that the unhappy visitor will find satisfaction some place else. Well done to the people at the George, including the chefs who have yet to dish up Smash to me!!!

I have been taking my parents/family to The George at Nettlebridge for the last 3 years. With the new management (lovely couple, husband & wife) it has been going from strength to strength and we see that every Saturday that we have eaten there, it has been full. So if the service was so bad as some of the previous reviews have stated, I fail to understand why The George is so well supported. Not only have we gone in to eat on Saturday, but my parents celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary there in the private section which was beautifully laid out and catered for. We have stayed over and had a party of 20 enjoy a hearty breakfast. This couple who manage/run The George deserve much better reviews - let's be fair? Well done T & K, keep it up.

An old pub with a huge bright orange extention built on the back.
Crappy micro waved food poor service and the atmosphere of a butlins holiday camo circa 1960's
Hi di hi

This pub is NOT good. The food is rubbish and service not good. The room is fairly nice but not sure about the orange building outside!! The menu would be reasonably pirced if the food was up to standard, but it is not. This pub used to make all homecooked food and have a warm atmosphere but now it is all prepacked food as anyone who knows good food will know.

Friendly staff, great service. Was out for a meal with a large group of friends and we felt welcome. food was average price, but nicely presented and of reasonable quality. Very bright and obviously recently rennovated, but done well.

We were regular customers before it was recently taken over. Just had a meal there. The food now is overpriced, menu is poor and service is sloppy. Basically you are getting average quality food at restaurant prices. The old nettlebridge was much better in all respects - quality, price and service. I will not be going again and will be telling friends not to go.

I forgot tomention, the steak I had the nite before supposedly sirloin was had a huge swathe of fat attached.

we spent the nite there as B'n'B customers, the showers were either ice cold or boiling hot, either way you could not enjoy a nice shower, which seems odd as it appears to have been recently done up.

Breakfast under cooked.
