We visited this evening for the first time in a year. Young's Special was on the bar and very good it was. madam had scampi and I treated myself to a Dover sole. I find it, framkly, amazing that it manages to keep its standards in a time when small business people are being desperately stretched

Great pub. Excellently kept ales, usually 3 or 4 localish brews on the pumps. Good honest food. Wish this pub was within walking distance!

Good pub with lovely kept real ale, went for the Triple FFF Altons pride which was in top condition and was served by a pleasent young man. Passed on the Sunday lunch as was in a bit of a rush but would like to try one day as the pub has a lovely warm feeling and friendlyness about it and the food that was being bought out for others looked fantastic. Lovely pub. Will visit again in the near future.

Living near Liphook we have driven past this pub umpteen times. From the outside it is quite unappealing. A local group was proposing it for a Christmas Dinner so Madam and I thought we'd try it out. Inside it is absolutely different from the outside view. It is freshly decorated and tastefully furnished. The HSB was excellent. We lunched off the main menu - ham and eggs and fish 'n' chips - and the food was delicious. Madam's ham, beautifully crumbly and free of revolting injected water, made me wish I hadn't chosen the fish - not that there was anything wrong with it! In any event, there was too much ham for her so I finished it. We returned today and tried the snack menu: my Stilton ploughman's was fine, and Madam's cheese toastie didn't touch the sides. The HSB was so good the first time i didn't care to experiment. We're now looking forward to Christmas.

This pub was a great find. Beer, food & service all excellent. Don't be put off by the dated decor!

We called in at the Black Fox for lunch during our walk going south on the Sussex path. We choose the pub after refering to the reviews on BITE. It seemed to be the best in the area. The local Black Fox bitter was excellent. The young man working the bar & also dealing with the food orders was very pleasant and attentive. Unfortunately the food just did not cut it for the price. I had the Steak & Ale pie, this should have been exceptional at 12.95, it was'ent. The rest of our party were satisfied with what they had but felt the food slightly overpriced. Hard to knock the pub as the staff strived to please, but we probably will give it a miss in the future. My rating would be 7.5

Just went again last Friday..we just ordered the simpler dishes this time ie ham,egg and chips and the chilli. Both great..the wife said the chill was the best she has ever had and she ordered the ham,egg and chips so you can tell how much i had of my chilli!! Next time we will go for the seafood again as it really is top notch!

Always very, very nice food using fresh quality ingredients and very, very well prepared. The seafood soup is great, the steaks are fantastic, and the deserts are as good as you could wish for. ie the summer trifle is how trifle should be. In fact all the menu is top class and the beer is perfect. Go and you will go again.
