It's a proper English pub! A no nonsense local. If you don't like seeing people drinking and maybe getting drunk, or if you want a bland, sanitised, corporate pub chain experience, or you're snobbish about who you talk to, this pub may not be for you. Personally I find the staff and customers to be friendly and helpfull.

I didnt get the friendliest welcome from the cocksure barman/governor and had great difficulty extracting some information out of him on the whereabouts of the gents. Not a great start and it didnt get much better as the smattering of locals on my week night visit were the sort that you wouldnt get into a conversation with at the bar.
The pub has two bars with a pool table in each and numerous plasma screens for Sky Sports. The larger main bar has a couple of dart boards which was good to see, but it would take more than them to get me in here again.
Cheap pub food is served, but I think that Id rather eat at the kebab van that seems to be permanently situated outside.
Ill not be returning to this pub again.

Horrible!!

It is over three decades since a young slim fresh faced student with flowing locks enrolled at the local polytechnic. When I look into the mirror it all seems very much in the past. At that time I did not visit this pub very much (it was then known as the White Hart) as most of my group got barred in the first term. The reason for this was never that clear.
Anyway I was in the area over Easter and met up with a friend from those faraway days. We decided to visit some old haunts and popped into the Town Inn. The service was friendly and the beer good. Whilst you could describe this pub as grim it is really the product of its surroundings. When I was a student the town centre (of Hatfield) was bland but busy a typical new town. Now there are numerous boarded up and/or vandalised shops with litter and a few lost souls replacing the hordes of shoppers. Apparently the planned regeneration of the town centre has been put on hold by the local council! A bad decision!
Anyway the pub is not that bad the staff are trying hard in difficult conditions so locals need to use it to prevent losing it. The other town centre pub of those days, the Robin Hood, is no longer or have I lost my sense of direction?

We sat in the beer 'garden' and watched a guy puking on the floor then carrying on drinking. No one batted an eyelid. Very very bad.

I had a short stay here for a meal, which was very poor quailty food which was over cooked. Not a warm welcome from the bar staff seemed very ruff. Very hot building could do with some air con. I would not recommend a meal here.
