Not a bad pub by any means but hardly great. While the barmaid seemed loud and jovial on evening one her evening off was evening two and she was again loud but this time rather drunk and aggressive to somebody in her party which most certainly didn't add to a nice pint.

We stopped at this pub on our visit to Faversham and very pleasant it was too, nice clean rooms and a good breakfast.
Large open plan bar with a restaurant attached to it and the beer was well kept, looked like decent food, friendly bar staff.

Another wonderful Faversham pub. A good solid roomy feel. Offers Sheps microbrews when available.

Nice friendly pub great place to go when your train is delayed

Occasionally indifferent beer quality and it can sometimes be a very long wait if a barrel runs out. This is made up in some part by the very friendly bar staff who are always pleasant, even when there is a rush at the bar. The decor is well maintained and the garden is improved so it's a shame about the beer.
This pub was removed from this years Good Beer Guide for the first time in many years and the restaurant is currently closed. Maybe they will work on maintaining their beer quality from now on but it's still worth a visit.

Having still not killed enough time at the nearby Chimney Boy for the Elephant to open on Sat morn, I stumbled aimlessly into this pub, an impressive redbrick Victorian corner local with a similarly intact interior, although alas with only a marginally bigger ale selection than its aforementioned Sheps peer. Still, the Whitstable Bay was well-kept. The place had a solid, if a touch tired feel to it, thankfully invigorated by an extremely charming barmaid who was engaging, knowledgeable and efficient, as well as attractive. She brought a much-needed spark of energy to the venue and probably deserves a pay-rise. Being early doors, only a handful of punters were in, but they were a mixed and seemingly civil bunch. A lady of some years who appeared awfully prim walked in announcing she was there for a local ladies' luncheon. Thinking her a classic sweet sherry merchant, I was surprised and thrilled in equal measure when she ordered a Master Brew! There's life in the old girls yet. All in all, not an exceptional pub, but not bad for a swift one.

A few years back, when I was still looking for love, I would visit the Railway in the hope that a likeminded lady, inspired by Brief Encounter, might be waiting for me. of course it never happened and, to make matters worse, I once almost choked ona peanut (dry roasted). I do NOT blame Sheps for this. The shit beer? Yep, that's Shep's fault...but I and I alone am responsible for the peanut incident.
PS. Has anyone got any shoes?

The rather ordinary red brick exterior of The Railway Hotel leaves the first time visitor totally unprepared for the very impressive and well kept Victorian interior of this deceptively large Shepherd Neame pub next to Faversham station.
My partner and myself have visited on a couple of previous occasions and have always found the welcome pretty reasonable but the Sheps beers somewhat predictable. So we were nicely surprised to find a guest beers on hand pump - Lancaster Bomber - which made a far more acceptable alternative to the other brew on - Masterbrew (yawn).
Our brief visit was somewhat spoilt by a group of blokes who had obviously had far too much to drink and had become rather loud.
A decent enough place, particularly if you've got time to fit in a final pint before catching the train home.

Great pub with a good selection of beer. The landlord is a lovely bear of a man and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. The food is wonderful too!

Popped in recently for a drink before getting the train. A little disappointed with the range of ales on especially considering the pub is in the Good Beer Guide. However the staff were very chatty and friendly and I would definately use the place again in the future. Which is more than can be said of many pubs sited close to railway stations!

Visited with my spirit guide Tonto McGhee. Am still floating around near the toilets out back.
|
Nice pub, friendly staff. Great for a swift one before the journey home.
|
The Master Brew was okay and the pub is a proper 'over the road from the station' kind of Railway pub (as in a Victorian feel etc). Worth getting up to the station with a enough time to spare for a swift pint or two before your train.

A typical Victorian railway pub, very large with sombre fittings and an indefinable character - just like the landlord in fact!
|
bar staff are young and friendly but do not have much of an idea about beer, Landlord is never around as was informed,to busy being self important!!, Shepherd Neame Masterbrew was only beer on offer, drinkable but a bland will call again during Hop festival(end Aug)overall a decent pub, more choice of ales is required and a stay at home landlord.over hyped with not much character.

Average beer. Not really inspired
|
A pleasant pub but not as good as it is hyped up to be. Beer is a bit hit and miss, never bad but rarely excellent.
|
Very atmospheric and characterful pub with mixed clientele and good Master Brew - a must on a Faversham crawl
|
Used this place for the first time a few weeks ago and spent an enjoyable evening sampling the range of Sheps on offer. Good pub, friendly staff - job done!

Went in for a few this weeknd, excellent pub, great bar games, great ale, and friendly informative bar staff.

We were recently recommended the Railway Hotel Dinning Room by a photographer, who said "get in now while you can, the restaurant is getting booked up very quickly by Londoners coming down for the weekend". We took his advice and went for Sunday lunch. I'm so pleased we did, it was amazing. The quality and originality of the menu is superb, the dinning room itself is worth a visit alone. If you're a fan of the Sportsman in Seasalter you'll love the Railway Hotel's restaurant. I would review the food and wine list but I'd go on and on, try it yourselves you won't be disappointed.

A lovely pub, with friendly staff. Excellent kept ale.

The best pint of sheps this side of the tracks, well kept bar and the little ginger girl was most polite. a credit to Sheps and the landlord, shame there are not more of the same in Faversham.
