The Duke's Head was my favourite pub of 11 I tried in North London yesterday. It's situated at the top of the hill in Highgate village and is an old coaching inn. Nowadays, it has a modern appearance with a good selection of real ales, real ciders and craft beers on keg. Ales on were Magic Rock High Wire, Electric Bear Werrrd!, Uley Bitter, Siren Yulu & Liquid Mistress, Stroud OPA & Five Points Railway Porter. Ciders were Seacider Marmalade & Kentish Pip Craftsman. Craft beers were from breweries such as Brew By Numbers, Siren, Lost & Grounded, Burning Sky, Bristol Beer Factory & Anspach & Hobday. The only surprise to me was that there weren't more people in. Possibly the best pub in Highgate.

I was walking past and happened to notice it had obviously changed hands and had a refurb, so went in to take a look, and have a pint. The range of interesting cask and keg beers was very impressive - not a generic tasteless lager in sight. If this is a Euston Tap influence, it's a very welcome one. I had a delicious and very fresh-tasting pale ale - can't remember it's name. The decoration is restrained and tasteful, and the only slight irritation was some totally unnecessary and unwelcome music (why?). Anyway, I don't want to end on a negative - it felt like it has the potential to be a really great pub, and I will definitely be back!

Just popped in as it looked like it had been refurbished - and it has! Today, it still smells of paint. New manager (she's ex-prince of wales) explained what's going on. Good range of beers and more to be added. Some local brews and lots of specialised. Both kegs and casks. Beers, stouts and lagers (and a couple of ciders). Very clean and modern inside - but sympathetic. I'll go back in a few weeks to see if and how the 'new' has worn off.

I am the daughter of PATRICK MORRIS (composer, musicion), who died last year. He was found dead in his house in 2a Southwoodlane on 16. Jan. 2008. The circumstances are rather suspicious and anyone who knew him and can tell me anything about when they saw him last and how he was found and who found him.
Please, please inform me.
I am living abroad and will come to London soon.
Grateful for any information and links.

Nice location - has an oldy worldy feel to the place. Probably was a gem once. Has a flag floor which gives it a country pub atmosphere. I like real ale - no real ale here, although there are three handpumps. Pool table in back, a few TVs dotted around, juke box etc.....Everything average. Could be a nice pub - just doesn't seem to be anything about this place you'd want to visit it for.....I stopped in to see what it was like, but probably wouldn't do so again. Get some real ales in here, and I for one would make this pub a regular port of call...

I found the barman/landlord to be friendly when I could get past the locals that were sitting at the bar. It was nice to see a dart board at the back of the pub, but the TV was a little small and out of the way due to the layout.

Nice couple of pints of lager and Id go back if I was in the area as this is one of the better Highgate pubs.

Dropped in here for a tincture one Sunday lunch and found it to be a very friendly place. The Guinness was 2.90 a go and was spot on, as was the Stella (also 2.90) Only a brace of people in there, but they were friendly, and the bar staff were A1. Will patronise this boozer again next time I'm in Highgate.

A nice little local in the uptight confines of Highgate Vllage. You never feel like an outsider coming to this place.

Many good nights here.

friendly pub run by genuine Irish family. nice local crowd. pub is a little bit dirty and you get the odd pisshead there, but if you get chatting to the regulars you should enjoy it.

Not a bad little boozer considering the area it is in.

Totally brilliant: great service, great jukebox and there's always a seat. An oasis for locals in sometimes-poncey Highgate.
