Old Tavern, Fishpondsback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Landlord did a runner this week. Chopped off all the PVC beer lines and left the place in a state where it'll cost thousands to allow it to re-open. Sky, WiFi and Card Payments had already been stopped prior to last weekend. Planned escape perhaps!

Clinical pub, flat screens, sky spots, just stella artois and a few other largers... no ale what so ever. No atmosphere except the occasional students. From my experience myself and a friend went in there and the land lady and land lord stood behind the bar. Not lifting a finger. The only point they did move was to shout at an innocent student for tapping the pool table because his ball was stuck in THIER table. AND to tell them to hurry up with their pool game... despite there being a busy bar with people waiting for drinks. Nasty pub, probably the worst in the fishponds/ bristol area... avoid at all costs... and this was AFTER a refurbishment. NB students avoid this pub also... very angry atmosphere.

Oh dear! Cold, clinical, flat screen TV's everywhere and Sky sports. No real ales, just keg lager and cider and John Smiths. Everything a British pub shouldn't be. Avoid!!

Pub now open after some re-furbishment. Temporary opening hours 3pm-11pm.

The Lease is up for Sale. Arbor no longer rent space at the premises

Traditional looking pub from the outside right against a narrow road where they drive like maniacs, though somewhat unfinished on the inner.
Good selection of ale,2 ales from the adjoining brewery (which have improved markedly compared to when they started-try SNUFFYS OLD ALE!) and 3 guests. The pub seems to do everything-ale,music,food,pool,darts,sports on telly etc but does none completely right, which is sad because the landlord is a good bloke and the staff are pleasant. Probably suffers from being neither a town nor a country pub,and having a council estate behind it doesn't help. Number 5 bus comes here.

Now the site of Arbor Ales brewery. I enjoyed my pint of Old Knobbley in a fairly typical pub

A classic English pub experience with solid booze: smokey and rough around the edges, the calor gas heater in the corner and the regular's dog around the ankles. Not everyone's cuppa but at least it is REAL, not some fake, commercialised chain-pub. Run by two friendly sisters for many years now. Two pool tables that were 50p play for a decade but have sadly now been refurbished and gone up to 1. Classic jukebox with the Eagles' 'Take it Easy' the perfect soundtrack for this now rare real pub experience. All the local rock/blues bands play Fri-Sun nights (gets jammed Fri/Sat night). Don't take my word for it: their strapline is "The place where time stands still for Rock." Genius.
