No longer a Wetherspoons - but still trading under the same name.

Just one comment - terrific value for a Friday afternoon. A pint of Loddon beer and a chicken curry (manager's special) for £5.28 !! Can't beat it.
|
One of the better Weatherspoons Pubs, Light and Airy inside and a nice seating area outside . Good Pint of Greene King Abbott Ale £2:60. Also available was Adnams Broadside and Ruddles best. Food looked and smelt Good at a reasonable price. Well worth a return visit, next time will eat!

Its a wetherspoons, so you've got to expect with cheap drinks you're going to get a 'mixed clientele'! Selection of beers not bad with a few guests being served on my visit. Food is ok and fine for popping in with young family to dine in the family area on a Saturday lunchtime.
|
By day it's quite quiet and fine for a bite to eat or a quick drink. The food is inexpensive, not spectacular but generally good enough. I have however been served by staff who did not know how to pour a pint of Guinness.
On Friday/Saturday nights it's a pitcher-fuelled sticky-floored sausage-fest. If you're looking for a quiet civilised drink then avoid it at peak times. But if you want to get smashed for cheap with all your mates then it's right up your street

This has got to be one of the worst Wetherspoon outlets in the area. Needs smartening up. The staff are very young and don't seem to really care about the customer service side of things. I've regularly had to ask for my pint to be topped up after the massive head settled (surely that's basic training - how to pull a pint of real ale?!).
Had the worst pint of Ferryman's Gold I've ever tasted there.
Come on Wetherspoon's - sort this place out!

You have to love the Gig house for absorbing all the trash and saving the rest of town for everyone else!
|
Stopped for a coffee - beer range one of the dullest I've seen in a Spoons.
|
ahhh the good old shit house the place where everyone in nam ends up on a fri/sat nite - my advice don't go there at those times unless you like sticking to the floor around the bar! the rest of the time its actually pretty good (considering its a llyods) foods alright price is good and good range of brews
|
Chav tastic disco bar, full of loud chart music (ie. trash) music videos and faceless bar staff interested only in getting the evening over and done with.
Seems to think it's 'cleverer than it is', rude doormen, and juvenile clientel.
If you don't wear bright red lippy, boob tubes, or 'box fresh' Nike trainers, there is little for you here other than a cheap yet tasteless beverage.

Called in on Saturday afternoon. A lot quieter than I expected. Didn't see any signs from below indicating a problem pub. Saw a group of lads ID'd, was served in good time, although one minute there's no one at the bar, and 5 mins later 8 people were trying to get served. You can't expect 8 staff to appear like Umpa-Lumpa's, to served them, then disappear again. Had food, was very nice. Lots of young couples, most with well behaved children. Overall, a nice expereince. Would expect a diferent one later in the evening. Maybe next week. One point to mention is that I thought the staff on the whole could have been more interactive with the customers. It wasn't busy. Was there for 2 hours, and didn't see a manager in that time.

One question that seems to puzzle me when i go in there...Where are the Bar Staff???
Its like playing a game of hide and seek with them. And when they do appear with the clueless expression on the face you wondered why you walked in.
|
This bar is fairly dark, dingy and dirty! But the thing that really makes it bad is the meathead bouncers on the door each weekend who are aggressive violent and rude!

Further to my last comment of 11 Oct 05, this place has become a bit tatty. Real cider is nowhere to be seen, and the barman informed me that pub policy says it won't be in the future either. We ordered food, and it came with items missing, but we were not informed that it would be less then described in the menu. On enquiring why parts of our meal were missing, we were informed that had run out! Erm, why did they not tell us this at the start, without hoping we wouldn't notice? Very dissappointed with the way this place is going.

Dreadful, dreadful, dreadful.
They didn't even notice that the first half of my pint was line-cleaner, until I asked them to try it first!
|
been to better places...
i feel old in here, and i am only 20.
do they really id on the doors?
i never have been!

Sdaly the ales aren't being kept as well as they were; especially an irritating lack of pulling through the first pint or two after cleaning so you end up with a nasty alkaline undertaste to some beers in the the early evening - try before you buy is my message here at the moment and don't accept second best! If they fob you off, then take a short walk to the Crispin or Vicky Arms.
The food however is still good and the service is fine. Clear air and relatively clean toilets too, although the cider range has sadly diminished.
Just sort out the basic beer skills barman, and stop being lazy.

Not bad for Wokingham despite better on offer in Reading - still cheap, cheerful and room to swing a cat. However the female clientale could do with a little more mensa training especially on a saturday night. Work it. Or not rather.
|
Nice and airy. Plenty of space and high ceilings give very open feel.
Real ale and real ciders on tap and a very wide range (over 30 i think) of bottled beers and lagers.
Food is ok. Pub has a curry night every thursday.
Pub shows music videos and sports on the numerous flat screen TVs all over the bar
|
Excellent, friendly, efficient place. Younger clientelle Fri/Sat, and Sunday lunch is truly relaxing. Chill with Sunday papers, decent food including Sunday roast, and good range of ales and cider. All reasonably priced.
|
The fact that this place had two real ciders on tap last week, along with numerous ales (Loddens last week tasted excellent) makes it a great place to sink a few bevvies with some mates, as it's pretty cheap too. Mixed clientele, with younger drinkers taking over on the weekend. Only small issue is the huge uninterrupted floor space downstairs - it looks like a cattle market!
|
What a relief to have a pub which caters for all ages. Good selection of Beer, Lager and Alcopops. I recommend having a Friday or Saturday night in there as it is packed! Have tried the mixed platters a few times which are plentiful and easily enough for 2 (unless you are eating with Michelle McManus) Great decor, entertainment and friendly, helpful staff. If you haven't been there yet then it's a must.

One of the Better Lloyds bars, very modern looking and a reasonable selection of beers, with one from the Loddon Brewery each time I've been. As more of a bar than a pub it adds variety to Wokingham and Is significantly cheaper than most other establishments there.
