As a follow-on from the previous comment by jarofporter, there is a group of men who stand by the door to the front bar and think it's OK to conduct loud effing and blinding conversations. They are in most early evenings and, the more beer that goes down, the worse the language.

Bit of a mixed one this. Used to be in the Good Beer Guide but has been removed this year. I've definitely no complaints about the quality of the ale however. The place could certainly do with a bit of a refurb. What put me off however was the fact that the barman was swearing in a converstation to the person next to me when pulling my pint. Depends whether that bothers you or not really.

A visitor to Belper I was pleasantly suprised after the climb up the hill to find the pub, that we had landed in time for a beer festival, and what a grand evening we had in this friendly local pub. Excellent beer, friendly staff and locals, lovely fire shared with a huge dog (also friendly)I will be back when we are in Belper the first weekend of January.

Simon now has Burton, Deuchars IPA, Jennings Cumberland and Timmy Taylor's Landlord as regular bitters plus at least one guest. He's also recently acquired the dark Budweiser to sit along side the normal golden one.

A lovely little pub up a steep hill a few minutes from the town centre. Five or six ales on handpump and I had a superb pint of cask stout. A nice friendly atmosphere with a splendid view across the valley from the window in the back bar.

Simon now keeps Deuchars IPA, Doom Bar, Jennings Cumberland and Burton as regular bitters. He also has Budweiser on draught, that's the proper Czech stuff, not that nasty American gnat's wee.

Great pub - sitting out the back here on a summer's evening watching the sun go down across the Derwent Valley is one of the highlights of living in Belper.

Cosy, local dog-friendly pub (don't be surprised to find two Newfoundlands in the corner)with an open fire in the bar where the customers sometimes toast crumpets in the winter. Lounge has a big bay window with nice views across the valley. Function room upstairs with regular gigs. The patio out the back is a suntrap in good weather. Simon the landlord keeps a cracking cellar with Tetleys, Deuchars IPA and Burton as regular bitters.
