This place has been closed for ages.

This place was pretty dire from what little I saw of it, and it has indeed now closed. The rumour I'd heard was that Sainsbury's had bought the site and are negotiating with the council to get a new supermarket built there, claiming that the town is in need of one. I would suggest quite the contrary - the fact that Dorking retains so many individual independent businesses is partly because a large supermarket chain hasn't moved in to kickstart the identikit shopping experience so many towns have now fallen to. But whatever happens, while I accept that it might've been a loss to those who regarded it as their local, the Malthouse will not be missed by many.

It was announced in the local paper that this pub would close in September as the lease has expired. Planning permission is being sought from the council for a large block of flats to be built on the site.

Watched the football here one Sunday afternoon. Yes the pub is run down but it serves its purpose - beer and live sport. Barman was friendly. A refurbishment would much improve this place but I imagine all is on hold with the potential Sainsbury's development

Although this pub does need a couple of touch ups, the food is definately on the up. The meals are huge and the prices are low. They have deals in food and drink all the time. At the moment it is only 2.20 for a DOUBLE shot of Vodka whereas in other pubs that is the price of a single. You can have two large meals, suchs as chicken tikka, kebabs, steak, scampi etc for 6! Thats a bargin. On various occasions there are special events where peeople (including staff) dress up. Recently there was a 911 night and a school disco night. The hours are getting later, the music is getting newer and the "naff people", as soomeone so nicely put it, are out. At the end of the day, if you want a good night out without spending too much money, the Malthouse is definately the place tp be. I gave it 8/10 due to the need for a referb.

Would agree it is annoying the pub shuts too early, needs to be later. Did not know the management had changed, thought there were a couple of new faces but hadnt seen anyone I thought to be the Manager, would say they have actually turned it into a really dull place, having been drinking in there 10 years. It seems dingier that ever before, the food is rubbish by comparison to how it was, the music is the same (same DJs, actually they keep changing djs on Sat that can be really naff). It is THE place to watch sport, TOO MUCH SPORT!! A real turn off! The clientele are rougher than ever! There is never anything going on there, no events, no nothing. It was better years ago. Wouldnt surprise me if that comment below was posted by someone who worked there! Typically pushing the cheap prices! What do cheap prices attract?? Ill see you in Arty Ps!

Since the change in management, this pub has improved... food is better, drink is better, place looks cleaner, music is better. It is without a doubt the best pub to watch live sport and has the cheapest beer and food prices

Was in there this weekend, who is in charge? The bouncers? Kept thinking it was gonna erupt any minute. Bloody kids.

What a DUMP!!!! Crap Lager, pipes need a good clean if you ask me! The staff leave a lot to be desired, rude, lazy and totally incompetant. The food is like something youd get from a greasy joes caf! Please save yourself the hassle and trouble youd have if you went there and skip it! There are better pubs around why waste time on this one?

Was out for the first time last week, this pub had actually been recommended by a friend. I found it ruff and intimidating, a horrid place, waited an age for a drink. I shall stick to Arty P's in future.

About as useless as Dorking Football Club who play next door. Rubbish beer (a really slimy pint of Guinness last time I was there.
|
What a shame, used to be a good pub. Full of pikeys and chavs now. Staff have one gear, 1st!
|
Great pub, best in town i would say....24 hr entertainment, theres always something happening down the malthouse plus its the only pub in town that have got quality old skool staff who know what they are doing such as Mo, Chris and Buddy
|
Great pub with a friendly atmosphere and the best looking girls behind and in front of the bar! The best for sports
|
Not too bad. Fairly crap beer and bar staff who appear to be struggling to come to terms with being awake, but generally not too bad.
Avoid the food unless you're needing a good clear out.
|
best atmosphere pub in dorking, fair enough a bit shabby in places but friendly staff and cheap beer. keep up the good music on the weekends, best night out in dorking
|
Without a doubt the most sucessful pub in town. Lack of investment lets it down at the moment but aparently they are going to invest in it shortly and introduce Real Ales at 1.60 a pint! Should please the ignorant fool below. He's probably barred! LOL

This is a wicked pub, been going there for years. Best place to play pool in town. Cheap prices, fit women and pukka food.

It has 3 pool tables good music (most nights have a DJ) plenty of room, a large beer garden and is generally a pleasent place to spend an evening although on friday and saturday nights you do notice all the under age people go but during the week it's a good pub!
