Plough, Congresburyback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Visited on a Saturday evening. Very friendly reception. Five real ales were on and the food was well prepared and very tasty. The pub was full of friendly locals. CAMRA Branch Pub of the Year for 2013 & 2014. Beers were Twisted Oak Fallen Tree, Exmoor Gold, Bass, Otter Head and St Austell Tribute.

Been a couple of times since my last report, 2009...Definitly better on the food front and good selection of ales. Plenty of customers on both visits. With the old inn down the road, makes Congresbury a nice place for alers/foodies to visit. Even the local chippy was doing business on this Sunday.

Had lunch here on the way down to Cornwall recently. Busy even just after 12. Excellent beer and food - 4 beers on including beers from Cheddar and Otter. Faggots in onion gravy excellent too. Will return for sure.

As others have said, not much has changed, but then, if it's not broke don't fix it. It's still a great pub. We foound the food to be very good, both generous portions and decent quality. The ham, egg and chips came with several massive slabs of decent, thick-cut ham and the scampi seemed pretty good too. The salad served with it was much better than many pubs, containing not just lettuce and tomato, but red pepper, green pepper, sweetcorn, red cabbage, cress, and I daresay some other stuff. Two mains for 15 seems reasonable value.
However, this is BEER in the evening, so the beers on this occasion were: London Pride, Gem, RCH East Street Cream, Reservoir Dogs, St. Austell Tribute and Butcombe. Coming soon are Proper Job and Yeovil's Posh IPA. The cider was Stowford Press.

revisted today and can only say that their seem to be little or no change from my first visit. so reallyn cannot add much, although i would have expected an improvement in the food quality, as i note the prices have increased. if your going to charge high make sure the quality is there also, not just a bigger portion.

First ever visit, nice olde worlde look/feel,and good welcome..Saturday lunch,by about 12-20 at least 15/20 patrons. We sampled 4 different pub meals, and would have to say,it was pub grub, above average and can get better.Good selection of real ales etc.Open fires and little nooks to hide in,all makes the ambience alittle more cosy,I can see us returning to try something else, and would have to say they are definetly, going in the right direction,,My only qualm..ceiling cobwebs need to be removed.but thay apart,it,elooking good..

Not really much to add to Blackthorn's review which pretty much sums this pub up nicely. Had dinner here yesterday and must say the food was of the highest quality, not that I judge pubs listed on this guide for food as it is "Beer" ITE after all but thought it worth a mention.
Beer range is great here, ever changing range of aprox 7 ales usually localish ones from nearby micos and on my visit included Cheddar Pot Holer and Bristol Beer Factory's award winning Milk stout which was sublime! One thing also to mention is that they still sell Thatchers trad cider on draught despite the 2009 GBG not mentioning this.

This is a cracking pub, a proper local's boozer but with a friendly welcome for everyone. It's split in to a few different areas, making each one that bit cosier than a big open pub. They've recently started doing food on an evening and can recommend it. The menu's farly short and to the point, but what we've had has been pretty good. They're faggots are proper butcher's one, not nasty cheap frozen stuff. There's a good choice of proper beer, and Ashton Press cider (or was it Stowford Press?). Anyway it was nice. There's a decent size beer garden out the back. The only drawback is the small car park, which can soon fill up. But then, what are you doing driving to the pub anyway?

A classic old village pub, hatch service, pork scratchings and good rotation of guest ales. Great for sitting by the fire in the worn out armchairs.
