This pub was a rather strange place with some strange characters to match. I'm not sure if this was because Halloween is approaching or whether it's always like that. Wychwood Hobgoblin is generally on. They also had the Hobgoblin Gold & Dark Star Hophead. The real cider is Old Rosie. Gents toilets are at the rear, where there was also an outdoor drinking area. The gents themselves are rather cramped. Unusual pub. But, not unlikeable.

Even more shabby and down-at-heel than it was in the last review from 2010. A popular pub with lots of comedy and music nights, and the grunginess is part if its old-school charm in an age of gentrification. But oh dear - the ale is appalling. You're lucky to get one pump on, poorly kept and staff who couldn't really care less about shifting anything other than corporate lagers.

Grungy, burlesque themed pub with nice atmosphere friendly staff and cool decor. Always advertising bands or comedy or DJs so must be a popular place all week.
|
REALLY friendly atmosphere. always go here for a drink or two when in brighton.

Nignog is lying he actually put Micheal Flatley on the jukebox and everyone started Riverdancing!!

I visit Brighton quite a lot through my work as a marine biologist. And my dear wifes family are related to the Brunswicks so I went here and had a pitcher of pimms and cherryade, apparantly this is this pubs signiture drink. it went down like jurgen klinsman. checked out the jukebox and put on some slipknot which got everyone up boogying and before I knew it I was in the middle of a big mosh pit and then I started crowd surfing. met a couple of blokes called winston and bobo the big black man off monstersofcock.com we went on a bit of a session and ended up in the market diner I asked for the desert menu as I wasn't up for a fry up I had profiteroles and they were very nice.

Went here on a friday night and found it full of teeanage goths who take themselves veeeery seriously. Aside from this, a nice enough place to go for a pint. don't make a special trip here but if you live local then there's probably a lot worse.

Had a great Sunday lunch hear but not impressed with the butgers on second visit. Good selection of Cider but imagine this place is more of a night time pub than a day time haunt.

Just moved to Brighton (well, "Hove actually"), and already I've decided that the Caroline is gonna be my regular haunt, even though it's a couple of miles away (it's well worth the bus ride). The percentage of stylishly-dressed customers is incredibly high (not just dodgy old goffs - I'm a fine one to talk - but some really fierce looks), the DJs are spot-on, the staff are friendly, the themed nights are imaginitive, the beer garden is nice, the decor is fantastic (especially in the upstairs room), can't recommend it highly enough.

Infinately better than when it was the Leek & Winkle, this is now my local! Usually Adnams and one guest ale on tap (has been Brains SA for a while now). Bit of a focus on rock music but I can live with that, not as full-on as in the Hobgoblin!

Absolutely the best pub in brighton - gorgeous food, great decor, amiable clientele.
|
ok if your out this way but not worth the effort other wise, played pool there one monday and got sunday roast leftovers in sandwiches yuk
|
really nice pub - friendly and great atmosphere!

Since it has changed owners (and is now acrually called The Caroline of Brunswick!), the food has improved ten fold, the clientele no longer consists of chaves and drunken old gits and there is a lively and friendly buzz to the place. Even though I live in Hove, it's now my new local. The choice of wine is also top notch. If you want a chav and football free place, with quality booze and clean loos, it's the place to go!

This pub is under new management who (contrary to the review below) have made this pub a much more pleasant place to be. The range of beers have improved, with Black Sheep and Hobgoblin available now. The whole feel is cosier with much nicer art and black chandeliers. Food is great ,especially on a Sunday when the roasts are fab! Quizzes are quirly and there are a range of DJs playing the best in alternative music at a volume that still allows for conversation. Oh, and it's now called the 'Caroline of Brunswick'.
|
I've got high hopes for this place as it's under new management, so watch this space!
|
Agreed about the decor and the stools, it's a good location though and there's also the tables inside and outside.
I stopped in recently because it's under new management (by a couple I know) and I hear big improvements are in the offing. Still, can only stretch to a 6 at present and that's somewhat based on future promise.
