In a part of London sparsely populated with pubs, this is sadly a bland, lifeless affair, more wine bar than pub, surprisingly cheap-looking in parts. Head for the lovely Horse & Groom around the corner.

I made a booking with lastminute.com for the theatre and a meal at the Talbot and my niece and I visited this evening. The service was shambolic - we waited 45 minutes to receive our first course and it was cold when it reached the table. Staff were running about madly and there clearly were insufficient people to serve the numbers in the pub. Our waitress was lovely but rushed off her feet and we had to leave our dessert behind as otherwise we would have been late for the theatre. Most of the other customers were also going to the theatre and all of them had similiar issues. It was very disappointing particularly as this formed part of my birthday present to my niece. Unfortunately I would not be inclined to repeat the experience

Getting better: 3 real ales on served at a decent temperature including an excellent pint of Brains Gold. The food offer is good for lunchtime though they still need to eradicate that aroma of Domestos that hits you when you enter... bring back cigars.

Beer is an afterthought at the overpriced cafe. They've added a second beer - Theakstons - but have no idea how to keep it. My pint was ice cold, cloudy and headless. Fixed tables at which they insist on serving you. Zero atmosphere.
Ok for warm summer evenings if you are in the area and want to sit outside because it is quiet. The pub at the other end of the street went out of business several years ago - not enough trade.
There is no good reason to drink here.

i'll concur with the previous comments, this place is loud, and doesn't server any proper Ales, it's just a lager and wine place.
the Deuchars IPA is frequently badly kept and off, or worse still served cloudy.
if you're after ales, avoid this place until they get a better selection

Really glad this wasn't another pub in the area to close its doors for good. That said, it has a hell of a long way to go - lacking any character at all and the music is ridiculously loud, whatever your taste.
|
sorry but one of the poorest pubs I have visited for a long time in Victoria/Belgravia. Loud, no character, Tv screens, really expensive and just one real ale (Deuchars IPA) which went downhill and off in the space of a couple of hours. Aviod!

Newly re-opened after a change of ownership. Still a strange-looking building, but at least the basic outdoor tables have survived the major refurbishment inside which has turned the walls a light pastel green. I don't care for the very high tables and stools in the main bar area, but there is some better seating nearer the door and in the eating area towards the back. Down to just one handpump now, but the Deuchars IPA was fine (if eye-wateringly expensive at 3.70 for a pint).

CLOSED DOWN

This is a pubco pub typical of its type. Spirit Group by the look of it, but Im not certain. Three real ales on when I was in there the other day Pride; Bombardier and Adnams Bitter. The Pride was drinkable. Its had a makeover since my previous visit, introducing some high stools and high tables as well as the other bane of pubs low armchairs and coffee tables. But they have retained some proper tables. All in all, I think this is a fairly inoffensive pub, but I wont go out of my way to visit again.

An ok pub, but it suffers from being surrounded by some truly great pubs in the area. Needs to make a bigger efforts if its going to compete.

I was there last Friday after a meeting around the corner. I tried to goto the Grouse and Claret but it is sadly closed. The beer was pleasant enough and of a decent quality although my overall opinion is rather clouded as they managed to run out of 3 different pump bitters and Guinness by 7pm on a Friday nigth and I was then told that they would not be changing it until the morning.

Very popular at lunchtimes if it is sunny. The outside tables can be reserved and this makes it popular with office groups. No complaints about the beer, wine or food. Could do with extra bar staff the times we've been there.
|
This is the perfect little local for my work crew, Friday nights are often very busy, but we have had some great nights here, beers not to bad and the staff are friendly!

What a horrid boozer... everytimei drink there, a hangover is to come. Even if only 1 pint is drunk. The beer is murky and the staff unfriendly..
|
Nice enough boozer this that needs to investigate a drop in standards in the cellar. On the two occassions I've popped in this week the Bombardier was in a very sorry state. Not necessarily badly kept, as it was clean enough, I can only guess they've landed a bad batch. Completely lacking in vibrancy, it didn't compare well at all with other ales in the vicinity... i had a far better pint in the Duke of York no less!
Talbot - my eye is on you

Tres bien ici too, although still not as good as the Nags Head or the Grouse and Claret. Well heeled and well soused in here,......good laugh,.....dont reckon you can go wrong really with dark wood and scarlet trimmings,..bring your smoking jacket,...good carpet.
|
A great pub.
|
Closed on Sunday afternoon, so head for the Nags Head or Grenadier

Looks like it should be on a particularly nasty estate in Basingstoke. Not bad inside, Irish barman is quick and efficient. No point in going when you have the Grouse and Claret 20 yards down the road.

Cosy place even if it does get filled with the well heeled locals.

Seemed to be pleasant, sells London Pride and has ample seating outside.
