Sadly this pub is not only closed, but walked past yesterday and it had been demolished, so no hope of a reopening.
Another brewery closure after making more money from selling the lease for development rather than running a pub..scandalous especially from a small brewer.
Are they crazy? This was the best pub in Victoria! How could they shut this down?!?!
What can we do to change this? I see that the pub is boarded up, but there is no work or anything going on. Is it for sale?
I went there last Friday for a quick beer after lunchtime and was gutted to find this place closed and boarded up.
I mean no-one would shed a tear in the rubbish Talbot next door shut, but this is truly awful. It can't have been unprofitable, as it was always packed. I guess it wasn't profitable 'enough'. An offer they couldn't refuse, etc etc.
Tragic is the only word.
And when I say, 'getting rid of', I don't mean selling them off as pubs, I mean redeveloping the site as more 'luxury flats'.
This is worrying. I'm increasingly convinced that H&W are concentrating on a few 'key' pubs such as the Eel Pie in Twickenham, and getting rid of the rest. The Archery Tavern already, the Marlborough (Kingston) and possibly the Tanners (Horsham) in the near future, and now this.

I can't help it, but whenever I have visited the Grouse and Claret it feels more like a hotel bar than a pub. Not sure why - perhaps its the high standard of decoration and cleanliness, or maybe the layout of the entrance hall before you get into one of the bars. But its still a great place to go for a drink. The H&W beers are good, though not cheap in this area of course, and the booths are ideal for small groups of drinkers.
I used to come in here fairly regularly when I worked round the corner at 37 Belgrave Square in the 90s (when I would have been one of the "suits"), and recall that they specialised in high quality different flavoured sausages. These don't seem to feature now. Shame - but still a very comfortable place to go for a decent pint.
On a Sunday morning I did a 7 mile walk around some of the London parks, and arrived at the Grouse and Claret at just after noon, gagging for a pint of Tanglefoot. Unfortunately, it turns out the pub doesn't open on a Sunday lunchtime. So I didn't get my pint of Tanglefoot. P.S. Is there really a dartboard?
Easily missed so check the map. A decent pub with decent food. Friendly bar staff.

K&B Sussex Ale is now brewed by Hall and Woodhouse as part of their Badger beer range.

I only found my way to the public bar - clean and tidy, and quite relaxed despite me probably being the only customer who wasn't wearing a suit and tie! Surprised to see a 'King and Barnes Sussex Ale' pump clip - didn't they go out of business in 2000? I will definitely go back to try the other bar.

This pub gives me bali belly everytime. They need to learn how to clean their lines, otherwise a top boozer!

I am chairman of a small London charity. Recently, we held a function at the Grouse which was very successful. The beer and food were good as was the service. One of our members wrote: "I thought the landlord was really helpful and the barman could not do enough to help out which was really appreciated." So, highly recommended pub

Very comfortable pub with two upstairs bars and a cellar bar. Good range of real ales mainly from Hall & Woodhouse. This pub has recently been refurbished to a very good standard.
The best pint of Tanglefoot I've had in many a year. A clean, friendly pub which will definitely get a revisit or several.
Nipped in for a couple on Thursday during a crafty afternoon crawl. PLace has been quite smartly done up, landlord and barmaid were both really friendly and the Badger Best was on great form (only 2.50 for a pint too which is great for this part of London). Had a look at the upstairs and downstairs areas and both looked like they'd be great for a party or whatever. Top marks - I'll be back.
Wouldn't know - it was closed this Sunday lunchtime when we tried to visit.
Held a work function here in the Cellar Bar a couple of months back. Fantastic service - the landlord and landlady couldn't do enough for us. Good food and good range of beers on tap. Upstairs main bar is perhaps a bit gaudy, but overall this place has a really nice atmosphere. Definitely worth seeking this place out.
The Grouse and Claret is - quite simply - the best pub in London. Probably in the world. The landlord and landlady are brilliant. The staff are wonderful. The lager is excellent. The sleazy red cubicles are priceless. The downstairs bar is a revelation. The upstairs bar is unbeatable. If I could spend the rest of my life in just one place, this would be it. Yeah, I know I've rated it before. But a place this good deserves more than one highest score.
I phoned up to ask about use of the dart board. The extremely forthcoming landlady explained that it's in the function room downstairs which she was more than happy to open for us. A darts room!! With bar and duke box. We arrived the following evening to find it was no word of a lie. Lovely pub, tucked away in beautiful mews streets. Chummy booths and pleasant outdoor drinking in the street - and the Landlady was as welcoming as she was forthcoming on the phone.
I've lost many an afternoon and evening in this fabulous pub. Great hangoverless Pilsner on tap and truly great sleazy red cubicles at the back. 'The pub where people go to have affairs', someone once told me. Yup, that's the Grouse.

Inauthentic but cosy. The barman was very friendly and there's a good selection of beers (Fursty Ferret V Good). Would quite happily lose a whole afternoon/evening there.
