Pub closed and now a supermarket

Well, I think the previous review must have been a bad day for this Pub. I have just been and and had a great time. They have now put sky tv in and Pool/darts so always pretty busy. My smoking mates were pretty happy with the facility out the back so no moaning there. We visited their comedy club following a few pints of Ringwood ale and had a top night. The staff were very helpful and helped us with taxis and sent us on to a great late drink bar after. Make sure you pop in at least once.

I first came here in November 06 and it was brilliant, busy, with friendly and welcoming staff. Unfortunately not too sure what has happened since February. The staff seem to have no personality anymore, and the place is just dead. I ate there in March, and food was just about bearable, now it is even worse. There are none of the faces i recognise from my first and subsequent visits and none of the personality that made this a place I used to make an effort to come to. All in a shame to see a good pub go bad, what has happened to the old management????

Just discovered they do a curry and a quiz night all rolled in to one night. Amazing curry, really funny quiz (didn't make me feel too stupid and it was only a fiver for all of it. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my Monday nights. Well done all at the Pig.

Well after reading some mixed reviews I thought I would give it a shot. We ate in the restaurant and I plumped for the Fillet steak, whilst (amusingly after reading a review on here) my wife went for the gnocci (dumpling in Italian!). My steak was cooked the perfect medium rare, with juice flowing with every cut. The taste was overwhelming, and whats more they were happy to substitute the mushrooms for onion rings!!! As for my wifes gnocci it was the first time she had shut up for more than 2 minutes!!! She enjoyed it that much! It wasnt served with bread, but it was requested to mop up the mouth watering spinach and ricotta sauce!! The staff there were really attentive and could not do enough for us and to walk in to a restaurant to be met with a smile and warm welcome really sets you up for a good night. One last night was the beer, I had a lovely pint of Ringwood best, followed by a pint of Porter. Both of them were what I expect from a real ale, clean, crisp, with a smooth drinkability! Fantastic night, fantastic pub, fantastic pub. All my friends have been told!!! Maybe I will see you there soon

Went to the comedy club next door last Friday. Cracking night out. They seem to attract some top comics. I see they have Rich Hall coming soon. Wow! Ate in the restaurant and had an excellent pre comedy meal. Pub was full and had a good atmosphere. Staff were very attentive and pleasant. Will be back very soon

Saw this place a few times as I passed by, so thought I'd give it a try.
When I went in, the atmosphere seemed to be more of a doctors waiting room rather than a pub. My beer was more like a cloudy soup, which I could not manage to drink for fear of spontaneous vomiting.
My partner and I decided to eat in the restuarant. The food was cold, my steak was over cooked, my first choice of starter was unavailable, all in all pretty disappointing.
On a better note, the staff were friendly, and the place was generally clean - apart from the gents which seemed to have a river flowing through it.

Fantastic Pub, I didn't even know it was there! I had the fantastic homemade burgers and my wife had the succulent tuna. Quality real Ale made the visit complete. The staff were attentive and you can park right by it. We will be back.

Having read loads of good things about the food here, decided to give in a try. I think someone referred to it as a gastro-pub. Afraid not - it might be a slight notch up from regular chain-pub fare, but gastro it ain't.
First impressions not overly-good, as smoke wafts from the adjoining pub area into the eating space. My partner wanted to leave before we'd even sat down.
Certainly an imaginative menu by pub standards, but selling out of mussels by 8.30 on a Saturday night was disappointing.
But it is the smaller details where the place needs sprucing up. The so-called home made bread that came with oil and balsamic vinegar - white, supermarket quality, probably manufactured the previous day. Very poor start to the meal
The lukewarm gnocchi came with a piece of expired old baguette, really rather pointless (guys, gnocchi is Italian for 'dumpling' - why would anyone want a hunk of white bread with it?).
Every dish seemed to be dressed with raw red onion, obliterating the subtle taste of (variously) crab, walnut gnocchi and sea bass. You must have a Polish chef out the back (warning, the Spar shop over the road doesn't sell mouthwash).
And to cap it all, I was served a glass of Pinotage (four quid a pop) so past its best it had fortified, and was beginning to ferment again in my glass. Why do pubs still take wine buying customers for a ride?
Anyway, on a positive note, nice attentive staff. Thank you.

Really great little pub. The food is on another level to most pub food, and the eating area has a really warm atmosphere. Friendly staff and real ales. Deffinately worth checking out if you don't want the same old hen/stag type bars in the town centre.

This area needs a pub - This is it and it's good.

Great pub with great food - after a seriously debillatating shopping session with the wife the more than ample parking, great welcome and superb food meant my mood improved before I went home. Close enough in the future for the wife to leave me before she walks into town. I will be back!

fantastic out of town pub, friendly staff and a fantastic menu. also has a great party venue attached where i recently saw a great comedy night, well worth a visit

A fantastic little pub with food that would not be out of place in some of the top restaurants in the country. It is nice to find a pub/restaurant that still understands the value of quality service matched with quality food and drink. Well done to all at th Pig and Whistle.

Tricky one to rate. My own view is that it's a bit trendy but a bit too small and boring. It's not on the best road in town with views of a car park and the flyover. But worth a visit all the same if only because there is an excellent Nepalese restaurant just along from it.

Very quiet but friendly bar with Ringwood on tap. The menu looks seriously tempting, must try some food there soon.

What a great pub. The bar staff are really friendly and the food is excellent. Best Sunday Lunch I've had in ages.
|
What a gret pub. Just been down for the weekend to see a mate. Had lunch. Great atmosphere, lovely food, friendly staff. What more do you want. Will definatley visit next time I'm in town!

Living just around the corner from this pub is seriously bad for my health.... Being an ale drinker, but not truly appreciating spit and sawdust, It's nice to have a nice looking place selling the real stuff... As for the food? if i earnt more i'd never cook again..
|
The good news is that they serve Ringwood Huffkin. The bad news is that this place just doesn't look like a pub.
|
After being shut for ages this pub has reopened. Offers real ales and real food. Ate there the other night and was very impressed with the food.
|
Not sure if this place is still open as the last time I was in this area the place was closed and the building was surrounded by scaffolding.
