This was the nearest pub when I was in Manchester recently, so went in for lunch. Food (served upstairs only) was not bad, and the staff were friendly. Beer was ok. Carpets could do with a clean. Overall, not terrible, not great.

I visit this pub very time I go to Manchester, mainly because it is a fairly normal place in a quiet side street, a block or so from the manic bus, tram & people rammed Piccadilly area. A pint of Greene King IPA @ 3.30 was quite satisfactory. The customers appeared to be a mix of shoppers, tourists & after work drinkers. Bar folk were engaged & efficient, all in all a pretty good pub.

Visited here a couple of months back. If I'm in the area on a crawl I always suggest coming in here, and am usually underwhelmed. What draws me in is the look of the building from the outside, looks like it would be a little hidden gem. Once you step inside it is distinctly underwhelming, not particularly offensive, but certainly nothing special. To be fair I don't recall any overwhelming smell of urine. Well after my last visit, I think I have finally learnt my lesson not to bother going again. Had a pint of Shakespeare on the hand pump. Tasted off and vinegary, not an enjoyable pint at all, and was very disappointing. The next morning we all felt unusually rough and can only put this down to the 'bad pint' of Shakespeare. I always though the 'bad pint' was a myth, until I drank here. Not recommended!

Awful. I walked in and the horrible smell of 'gents urinal' is overpowering. I made a special trip based on reviews on the net.

It's terrible - empty, smelly, unfriendly woman served me a cider. Couple of Phil Mitchell lookalikes at the bar. Quite warm tho, but the blokes' was as bad as it smelled.

Can't rate this pub as the smell of piss permeates throughout the pub. Urgh..

Friendly welcome, nice pint of boddingtons, handy if rest of family are shopping in primark opposite!!

Looks a great pub on the outside which is tucked away down a side street near Primark problem is the real ale is off and the people who go in there are dodgy. Must be a haven for the shoplifters because when i went in the toilets some bags and clothes were being traded with a gaunt looking fella who looked like he dabbled in hardcore drugs. Has potential to be a fantastic boozer just needs a few more real ales and the pipes cleaning more than once a month.

Popped in yesterday afternoon while waiting for a tram. The place was empty so can't comment on what it might be like in the evenings or lunchtime

always seems to have a great atmosphere and great ale. Great pub for a drink after work.

had a pint of Bombardier in here, which was in excellent condition. Although i was bothered by my friend and i being slightly harassed by the local drunkards/builders, and the toilets were absolutely skanky. stank like they hadnt been cleaned in ages.

apart from the ale there wasnt anything that inspired me here.

Bit cramped with the table arrangement but food and drink ok at reasonable prices. When I visited there seemed to be many "ladies who do lunch" with Primark bags. Beer, whatever it was, went down alright,

2 cask ales on last night, 1 line getting emptied. Tried Bombardier, it was v good.

Love this pub, nice atmosphere, ideally placed.

when ever we come up to play bolton, city or manure, we always pop in here.

Its hidden just off the main sqaure for tram to old trafford and paddington is a short walk away for the reebok stadium.

its calm and quite dark, and on match days isnt particularly partisan.average pints, but it does great cheesy chips and other pub food.

no real ales here

The only pub I`ve seen in my life selling draught milk.It was a long time ago though.

Wouldn`t it be funny if when Stoke did their old trick of setting fire to a pub their locked in, the old bill STILL didn`t let them out.

Can`t believe the comments on this pub.Looks good from the outside. But cramped inside, crap beer & dark & dreary ...No Wonder Stoke tried to torch it a few years back!

I now live in London, but when I come home, this is my 2nd stop to refill my warmth for a great city

Nice authentic uneven floors...not the greatest place for my alcohol induced inner-ear problem but I've never gotten heavily inebriated there so all is well.

Not exactly ideal for a night out, but great to sit and relax and possibly have a bite to eat. Pretty quiet, not too busy, ideal for a quiet drink.

Not a bad pub. The beers are good and they serve good food. The only thing I found wong with this place was it's too small. You have to hang around and wait for someone to leave if you want a seat.

Great boozer.

Nice cosy atmosphere, just off Market St so an ideal place to pop in after shopping.
