A street corner local owned by Wadworth's, this is a two room pub in the heart of Larkhall with a (very) small courtyard garden at the rear.
The larger of the two bars is an L-shaped affair with some stained glass in the outside windows and in the wooden partitions within the pub. The bar counter dominates the front part, whilst around the corner is an old fireplace with glazed tiling and a dart board. A pile of paperback books was in front of the bar, presumably for punters to swap as well as a few board games next to the bar. The flooring is old wooden boards. Off to the right is a smaller room which has a slightly more contemporary feel with some modern artwork on the walls and cream panelling on the lower part of the walls, but this lacked much atmosphere, perhaps due to the lack of natural light.
The courtyard at the back has wooden decking and housed a couple of tables and some flower pots and troughs, and whilst not unpleasant is, I suspect, primarily used as a smoking area. The pub was very quiet when we visited with only two or three punters propping up the bar, but then it was a Saturday afternoon so may well be busier at other times. Various notices advertised forthcoming events such as music, comedy and quiz nights. A menu chalked up on a board offered a selection of "pub grub" dishes as well as a few specials, although we didn't eat on this occasion so cannot comment on the quality.
Beers on tap were all from the Wadworth's stable with their 6X, Henry's IPA and Swordfish. Ciders were Blackthorn, Thatcher's Gold and Weston's Traditional Scrumpy. Overall this seems a decent enough local, and I would happily return if in the area, although it's probably not worth a special trip if you're not.

I was visiting this area to go to their theatre. We wanted some food before hand so phoned ahead and booked a table.
The landlord was very welcoming and made us feel at ease showing us to our table. He pointed out there was a special offer on for that day of 2 steaks with all trimmings and a bottle of wine for 25.00!!! This was amazing value the food was fantastic.
Would highly recommend this pub to everyone for a great friendly atmosphere and excellant food. Thank you!!!

Gary is a great landlord with a pub to match! The food is delicious - proper pub food and generous portions. Good beer, music and comedy with a cosy, welcoming atmosphere.

Great pub with "real" good food. Gary very friendly & we were made to feel welcome with our 2 kids. Would definatly recommend a visit if you are staying in this area when visiting Bath.

A great traditional and unspoilt local with an excellent and very amiable landlord. With the added plus of good food well presented. Very friendly cliental and backroom staff. Good selection of ales, seasonal brews and an acceptable wine list. The central heating system is unique and it works. Just what is needed for the winter to keep your feet warm when sitting around the bar.

Best pub in Bath - and I'm not given to hyperbole. The R & C is the archetypal back-street pub which has been neither "discovered" nor "updated" ie it has delightful and knowledgeable staff (Gary and Leanne), hotel-standard food (Ben is a truly excellent chef), a cosy, relaxed, and welcoming atmosphere, and decor that is precisely how a pub should be.
Be there if you want an evening of pleasant surroundings, first class food, and convivial company.

Great food from locally-sourced ingredients. Good selection of cask ales, with rotating guest beers. Brilliant little pub if you're in the area!

Really lovely local pub with such a welcoming atmosphere. Lovely selection of ales and wines and the landlord Gary is happy to get in things that he does not normally stock. The food is hearty and tasty and I would highly recommend a visit here!

Lovely little local pub. Monthly quiz. 3 real ales (Wadworths) plus local cider and usual lager. Friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
Particularly good food. Normal pub grub plus decent specials meals. Specials in chalk rather than painted onto a black board. Specials change daily. Small beer garden.
Gets very busy at times. Be warned, the locals say "Aaart" a lot.

Very friendly atmosphere , nicely decorated and refurbed and always enjoyable to visit to have a drink with friends . I love the heating that is around the bar with the old fashioned heating.
New management and staff in there but they are warm and friendly every time i walk in there.
Well worth a visit time and time again.

I think perhaps it would be better to have the opinion of punters, rather than the current incumbents!

Come and visit new landlords Debbie and John very welcoming, with good food and good beer.
|
Very nice pub, good range of beers, very welcoming and friendly staff.

Short walk from Larkhall Inn and worth a visit if you're in this part of town.

The Rose and Crown is a very nice, unspoiled pub. They serve an excellent range of draft beers. They regularly bring in new, seasonal draft beers. The choice of wines is very good, equally so are the bottled beers and the somewhat quirky, offbeat and untypical bar snacks comprising crisps, peanuts etc.
