Now closed. Thwaites sold the pub to the University of Central Lancashire.

I wasn’t intending to call here, but change my mind after my experience at the Adelphi (q.v.). To be honest I can remember much about the place, so these notes are a bit episodic There was hardly anybody in at 3pm on a Saturday. There were several big screen TVs showing rugby, but not obtrusively. There were 4 beers on tap – I had the Thwaites Original which was OK. Food was available. I had a look at the menu, but was more interested in the fairly extensive list of craft beers they had available, bottles of each of which were illustrated therein.

I called in last week for old times sake as this was my fave pub when I was a student... its changed a lot and gone all plush, however, I quite liked it.. the Thwaites beers were really well kept and I enjoyed a couple of pints of Wainwright which went down well... good choice !!

Recently refurbished. Modern, simple and very comfortable interior. Excellent range of drinks available including specialty beers. An interesting and very reasonably priced menu. Small outside space at the rear of the pub. Clientele tend to be a little more sophisticated than in the past and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are in the Friargate area this pub is a must.

Very nice traditional pub with a good range of beer

A truly pleasant, friendly public house. Many have been the evenings whiled away in blissful ignorance of the outside world, pint of Guinness, Bomber or the silky Thwaites' Smooth in hand. Good quiz on Thursdays (free sausage 'n' chips!), footy always on for PNE and England.
Top Drawer!

Surely one of the best pubs in the known universe, especially on a Thursday night when it gets invaded by the Violent Fishcakes!

It's well good. They have the best quiz in the known universe. With free sausage and chips! And Lancaster Bomber is on draught. Everybody should go at least once in their lifetime. Look out for the Violent Fishcakes ;)
