We had a very pleasant Sunday lunch here- the food was good (the whitebait with a hollandaise sauce was nice), as was the beer (Ubu Purity and Hobsons). The service was a bit ditzy but no complaints overall.

Stayed a night here and everything was good. Well, we had a problem with heating in our room but it was sorted very quickly. Didn't have dinner but breakfast was fine. Beer is very good and the pub is a pleasant place to hang out

Popped in yesterday for a quick bite and a beer. Found no fault with either product other than being slightly overpriced. It's a fine old building with a pleasant rustic feel in the front bar, which I preferred to the slightly characterless dining section at the back. The service was civil and friendly enough and I think the management are trying to provide a pub worthy of it's attractive village setting. Nothing spectacular but a nice example of a fully functioning traditional rural pub. Worth a look if in the area.

Drink the beer but avoid the food. I have been coming to this pub for a couple of years. Food always been excellent until 2011. First night I had Scottish steak and chips. The steak was tasteless and the home made chips were limp, poorly cooked and not very appetising. I returned to the pub a week later, thought I give it another go and ordered the fish and chips. This was a mistake as I had forgotten how poor the chips were. The battered fish was dreadful. It tasted as if it had a cold and as if it had been left out to dry after it had been washed ina washing machine. It was quite simple disgusting. The pub itself is lovely, the beer great but they got to change the chef immediately or at least get some one in who can cook.

Under new management - visited this lovely friendly pub twice last weekend. Five great real ales, Palmers Mad Goose and St Austell Tribute being my favourites. Delicious food, excellent selection of wine served by efficient friendly staff. This is the sort of local pub everyone would want in their village. Chris and Francoise are doing a cracking job.

Avoid at all costs.
Visited this pub after seeing it in the good beer guide and seeing their website. First disapointment was finding only two real ales, never mind came here to dine anyway. Moved out the back to the restaurant, got a table no problem, the restaurant was barely half full on a Saturday night, alarm bells should have rung. Menu seemed overpriced, a lot more than their sample menu on their website. Went ahead and ordered lamb shank on rosemary mash with red wine jus and confit of duck in orange sauce, both at 15.95. Sounded good. We were told if we wanted any vegetables there would be an additional cost. Declined the veg, thought that if this was needed it would have come with the dish at that price.
When the food arrived there was no rosemary in the mash, just plain old mashed potato, the red wine jus appeared to contain no red wine and seemed more like a gravy made from granules with no flavour to it, certainly not a jus. The confit of duck was just a roast duck leg, I don't think the chef understands the term 'confit'. The orange sauce resembled the gravy on the lamb shank but with some orange segments thrown in for good measure. It was all edible but not what it was claiming to be. It was just simple pub fayre and should have come with a price to reflect this. I made my complaints known when asked after the meal and was told my observations would be passed on to the chef/cook, I received no comeback.
I won't even start on the cleanliness of the toilets.

Nice little pub with good ale. The food served in the bar was very good but 8.95 for fish & chips I thought was a little steep but it was very good never the less.

Birmingham International is not the nearest railway station to the White Lion.
The White Lion is only 10 min walk from Hampton-in-Arden station, one stop to the south of Birmingham International served by the local service every half an hour.

Went for Sunday Lunch yesterday. 4 adults and 2 children, food was excellent, service was excellent. They provided entertainment for the children, and half sized portions for them. They had a large group in, but we were still served in good time for both drinks and food. Nice, clean, light and airy restaurant. Good decor throughout. I would highly recommend it.

Yep, i got to say that
1. this pub was ruined by that damn kiwi chap who thought he was some beer expert, in actual fact kiwi, you are just fat because you eat too much, nothing else, you know nothing about beer.
2. the new (old) bloke who's back in has turned the place back into a pub, and although old hooky ain't my favourite, he is doing a damned good job and i am happy to go in here for a beer. well done to the landlord.

Very old pub, but been given a good restoration. Great stop off on the way to the NEC and Birmingham, has rooms, food and Black Sheep beer. I was impressed by friendly staff and would look for it again.
