The pub is a very large room that is quite random in some ways, the pool tables were in the way of people who might have wanted to get to their seats. It's a chain pub (I want to say Stonegate but cannot say for certain), with nondescript things on the walls. On the bar there was- Bombardier, UBU Mad Goose, JW Lees Dirty Dozen and Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted. I went for the Bitter and Twisted at 2.95, an okay beer and well kept. Cvs had cycling on, a few fruit machines and a cash machine. I imagine it would be good for a big game but no reason to come here otherwise. Good enough though

We visited the Flute yesterday (Saturday) morning as it is one of the few pubs in this part of town that opens in the morning. It had 3 ales on - Banks's Sunbeam, Tetleys Christmas Cracker & Sharps Doom Bar. Most of our part opted for the Sunbeam, whilst I (probably stupidly) plumped for the Christmas beer, even though Christmas was a couple of weeks ago. The taste was vile and it didn't take much to work out that the beer was off. I exchanged it for a Sunbeam, which was marginally better. The pub was also far too hot. Disappointing experience.

The Flute is still persevering with real ale and there was a reasonable selection yesterday - Peerless Cracking Up & Knee-Buckler IPA, Roosters Buckeye & Greene King IPA. It's still a huge pub, that feels dark inside and perhaps similar to an Irish bar. Worth stopping by to see what is on.

Paid the Flute a swift visit following a similarly swift visit to the nearby Clove Hitch (which is improving but not listed on here). The Flute has recently improved its ale range and was offering Wells Bombardier, Liverpool One Liverpool Light, Cottage Norman's Conquest MM & Greene King IPA. CAMRA discounts are apparently offered. But you have to request one! Still more of a sports bar than anything else. But at least they are making an effort to appeal to different crowds.

Dire!
I was walking up Hardman St the other day on my way to the Fly In The Loaf. I got to the Fly and there were doorman outside and it looked heaving inside. I carried on walking and came to the Flute. It looked busy but there were plenty of seats so I entered.
Very shabby interior what you'd expect from a Firkin pub. Took 10 minutes to get served a pint of Strongbow (2.70 a pint). Live football being shown on many screens, along with a few scallys in there who took their drinks outside the main door and smoked a spliff in the doorway!
Okay place to go if you're a student (or scally). Won't be returning!

A large barnlike sports bar with no fewer than 10 screens and a six foot square projection screen. Lots of pew style seating, games machines, and a bar back display of WKD bottles, the Gents are labelled Male. I guess that description says it all about the place. Mundane keg beers only although there is an handsome five pull set of beer engines still on the bar from its Flute and Firkin days, it was even in the Good Beer Guide at one time. Popular with all sexes and a wide age range and the bar service was pretty good.

Now known more simply as 'The Flute', this is probably the place to go to if you want to watch live sport. There's about a dozen strategically placed screens scattered around the open-plan bar area. Drinks selection was extremely poor. No real ales or ciders - just a selection of bog standard lagers to suit the sport-watching masses. This certainly isn't a drinkers pub. Not a patch on the nearby Fly in the Loaf. Walk on by!

I love this pub! bit quiet in the summer when all the students bugger off home but its great for a cheap night out. Ope till 2 with Kenny the DJ (We love you kenny-can we be ur bitches?) the music is poppy but not too poppy with some good classics like bon jovi, bryan adams etc almost gauranted along with newer classics such as the killers, kaiser chiefs etc. Bar is cheap (1.20 for a bottle of carlsberg). Fun friendly student atmosphere and no dress code!

The food is terrible and it takes far too long to arrive. I waited 50 minutes for a lasagne, and the pub was empty. Plus, they only serve main meals after 4pm. Overpriced and extremely dissappointing.

Although this is a large `theme` type of pub, it is fantastic to watch football in. Situated in the heart of Liverpool`s student area, it does attract that sort of customers, however it is cheap, and friendly.
