I think the rating is spot on. If you read (google 'Man nearly dies in bar brawl') the article in the Islington Gazette published 15th July 2010 you will find out what this place is about.
Was unfortunate enough to pop in for a quick one after a superb dinner in Hoxton before the last tube, greeted by 2 staff bickering very loudly in some foreign language amongst themselves in an empty place. I was glared at and told that the place was closed and told to go or the police would be called. Nice. My companion and I were half way out of the door by then anyhow...what a nightmare.

Hmm, I think the rating is about right. This place really is the pits. My mate and I popped our heads in because we were passing and trying to find somewhere that was sowing the footy. They have decent screens for that, and that's about the only decent thing here. You'll scratch around trying to find something worth drinking from the chrome-only bar, then scratch around trying to find the money to pay for the overpriced slop. Super cold lagers and little else, you know the score. It's such a pity, as it has all the ingredients for being a good enue - lots of space, multiple floors and the rarity of a roof garden. But it's run by unimaginative management who know that there are enough undiscerning chavs in the area to just about keep it going.

This was my first time in this pub, but I have been trashed a couple of times in the club albeit many years ago.
I found the barmaids to be nice enough and although I didnt like the look of the Greene King IPA that the bloke in front of me ordered my Guinness was fine. There are a couple of floors to the pub and, as mentioned, the roof garden is a nice touch.
Although I wouldnt drink here again, I think that the current rating is a little harsh, but my visit was on a Thursday so I didnt get the full impact of the clubbing crowd packing out the pub.

This bar is the pits and is to be avoided.

Sadly, a bit of a blight on Hoxton which would leave most wondering what all the fuss is about. This pub's location in an obvious place near Old Street tube, above a dire looking club of the same name, and presided over by a staggering blue-tinged building caters for the lazy amongst us. The multi-tiered roof gardens save it from utter terribleness.

seemed alright to me - next door to teh nightclub - convenient service pretty quick for a saturday night - San miguel not overly pleasant though.

Popped in for a festive tipple after work with a few mates, enroute to town. Ignored by staff despite waving the contents of my purse at the bar (despite the fact there we all of 15 people in the premesis at the time). This place is really the pits, a friend warned me about the lack of hospitality at this place a long time ago. I should have heeded his warning. I'm frankly flabberghasted by the lack of professionalism at this dive. A prime example of what a bar should'nt be! Steer well clear of this pit.

Avoid this place at all costs. The staff are thoroughly miserable, the toilets are a disgrace and the beer is warm and watered down. You have been warned - what a dump!

Had to wait 10 minutes to be acknowledged by one of the disinterested staff before paying over the odds for a warm pint and red wine served in an ice bucket, left immediately. Awful excuse for "pub".
|
This used to be the Lord Nelson, which was a smokey (proper) pub with 2 pool tables and a darts board. They've got rid of the friendly staff, lamo'd the floors and brought in the Euro beers and surly barstaff. Not a place I'd go off my own back, but if a crowd of us were in the area its ok for one or two before going somewhere better.

Of all the bars I could have chosen at lunchtime, I had to choose this one. Its difficult to comprehend how rude and disinterested the staff were. You may sometimes get one, but here all three lacked basic social skills. Avoid this one like the plague, specially as there are lots of places close with incredibly friendly staff.

I've never had a problem in this pub and go a few times a month. Good beer good range of wine, and shots on offer most weeks.
Try it, you'll be glad

Popped in on the way home after a meal in the area, the place was almost empty and staff looked as though they had come from a funeral. We were shortchanged by 20 on the drinks order and had to engage in a tedious argument until we were refunded, after which we promptly left. This place really Sucks.

Tacky decor, looks out of place in Shoreditch, rude incomprehensible staff, Feels like it belongs in a remote Essex village. Avoid the food - Overpriced and nasty! When we went there we were told to drink up and leave as the bar was closing at 10pm (on a Thursday!). Won't be going back.

More like a wine bar than a pub, nice decor and friendly staff. Good for a serious lunch time drink.Best in area.

A new addition to the old street area. 30 seconds from old street tube.A nice venue set on 2 floors with roof garden, pool table, restaurant and plasma screens showing sports all day.
