It is a genuine kind of old school pub but the ale was very poor. Was given a pint of cloudy murk that looked like Catweazle had been bathing in it to start with which was changed for a less murky one and finally a clearish one. Even the clearer pint was not up to much - and there wasn't a great choice either. Prices matched the nearby upmarket Castle too. Won't be dashing back in a hurry.

Loved it - it is a proper boozer out of the town centre and well worth the long uphill walk. Three beers (Courage Best still sells well here). and great banter with the locals. No frills, this is a great place for a pint or two.

It's a decent enough place, with the fire on 365 days a year! A bit expensive though

Haven't dropped in here for over 6 years, until a week last Friday when I had fortuitous cause to make a return.
I recalled the Rising Sun as a cracking little local, almost like a community centre, that happened to serve a respectable range of cask beer (hence it's inclusion in the Beer Guide). Happily, it appears that little if anything has altered since then, with the same atmosphere, clientele and ale variety still being firmly in place. We queued up (this was a busy night as Bath were palying Northampton and the big screens had been fired up) to procure our ale and sat back for a while to enjoy the tos and fros of said match with the local punters, who presumably were all rooting for Bath.
Despite being in a gang of 14, as far as I could perceive nobody was antagonistic on that basis; indeed we were made to feel perfectly-welcome. The beers on offer were varied and mostly local; I think I opted for Yeovil offering though I must confess after a week of solid quaffage my memory can't be that relied-upon. In any case, I had no objections and found the quality to be good.
To be honest, of the 6 or so pubs our party managed to get into during our brief overnight stay, this one rings the most true as a solid, authentic local, and I imagine it is fiercely-defended by its regulars. If it isn't, it should be. There are too few pubs like this remaining nowadays - genuinely free of pretense but still retaining a focal point for the immediate community - and I really hope it continues to go from strength to strength.

Good local boozer made from customers rather than the frosty landlord/landlady who can be positively darn right rude when they are their usual pissed up state!

Locals pub situated on the edge of Bradford-on-Avon. There are two bars. The main one is to the left and a smaller saloon bar is to the right on entering. The whole place has a worn and ageing feel. But the locals were friendly. A couple of elderly dogs were in the bar and provided a little entertainment. The landlord seemed a little surly. But being a fellow Everton fan, I'll let him off! One customer remarked that there are more Everton fans in the pub than any other club! A large collection of trophies in the main bar inidcated a strong emphasis on various games and sports. Beers on were Courage Best, Tetleys & Exmoor Fox. The real cider was Thatchers Cheddar Valley. Stowford Press was also available.

Been using this pub along time now, always a good pint, The current landlord and landlady have the carisma of a tailers dummy, not just rude but ignorant. It is a breathe of fresh air when they are on holiday and the relief landlord/lady are in charge, a warm and inviting couple. And watch out for dog mess in the family beer garden!

I found this pub very friendly and welcoming with some excellent beers on offer. Sorry Old_King_Cole, I prefer The Rising Sun.

As per last review - a proper local. Busy when we went, unfortunately the small side-bar (nice old decor and fire place - old as in 1950s not 1850s) had a load of young guys who'd obviously been drinking all afternoon in there. Beer range ok. Castle Inn nearby is better. 6/10

Traditional local with reasonable beers.Welcoming fire perhaps the only warmth extended but honest, no nonsense boozer is often a refreshing change from the town centre plastic bars.

This is a great pub.
I went there last Saturday at 17:00 and the place was rammed! Wonderful crazy locals.
I have spent many a fine evening and summer afternoon at the Rizzzzzer.

Weird pub- loves the locals but not visitors. I was shunned and they didn't want to serve me.
